The Bisons suffered their first loss of 2022 to fall to .500. Meanwhile, Vancouver celebrated the return of baseball at Nat Bailey Stadium.

Iowa 8 Buffalo 4

The Cubs scored in five different innings to double up the Herd. Anthony Kay did not have it as he coughed up four runs (three earned) on five hits and four walks in 2-1/3 innings. He struck out a pair but only half of his 60 pitches were strikes. Jeremy Beasley allowed a Kay runner to score and an unearned run on a hit and two walks but whiffed five in 2-1/3 innings. Lefty Brandon Eisert surrendered a two-run homer among his two hits but walked one and struck out five in two innings. Fellow southpaw Marcus Reyes yielded another run on two hits and a walk but struck out the side in the eighth. Only lefthander Andrew Vazquez emerged unscathed with just a one-walk ninth.

The first Buffalo run was the result of an error in the second inning. Cullen Large had an RBI single in the third inning and Eric Stamets singled home a pair in the ninth. Stamets and Vinny Capra had two hits apiece. Samad Taylor walked twice, was hit a by pitch and stole two bases. Rafael Lantigua also heard ball four twice. Josh Palacios and Nick Podkul also had base knocks with Palacios stealing a base. Logan Warmoth and Chris Bec also got on board once via the base on balls. The Herd were 2-for-15 with runners in scoring position, stranding 13 men. 2016-2017 Blue Jay Matt Dermody got the win in relief.

UBC Thunderbirds 2 Vancouver 0

The Vancouver Canadians played for the first time at Nat Bailey Stadium in 950 days as they took on the T-Birds in a seven inning preseason game. Chad Dallas pitched four innings and gave up both runs in the fourth. Will McAffer, Mark Simon and Alex Nolan followed with perfect frames. Simon hit 96 on the radar gun, Nolan clocked in 93-94, McAffer hit 93 and Dallas was at 92-93 and touched 95.

P.K. Morris had the C's only hit with a double in the second inning. Davis Schneider drew a walk. Miguel Hiraldo hit a deep fly ball to the warning track in center field for a loud out. Harry Ray sharply hit into a double play with runners on to end the game.

This will be the final game with no pitch clocks at the Nat. They will be installed when the team hosts Eugene in its home opener Tuesday, April 19.
