Buffalo used eight pitchers in a 1-0 win. New Hampshire used seven pitchers in a 9-7 win. Orelvis Martinez had a big day. Another hitter with a big day was Jommer Hernandez for Vancouver who homered in the ninth for the game winning hit. The disappointment of the day was Dunedin who lost both ends of a doubleheader.
Rochester 0 Buffalo 1
Portland 7 New Hampshire 9
Vancouver 5 Spokane 4
Fort Myers 6 Dunedin 3 - game one
Fort Myers 3 Dunedin 2 - game two
This is what I noted from yesterday's games.
The Buffalo game was a pitchers duel, Buffalo outhit Rochester 6-5. But the extra Buffalo hit was a home run by one of the new guys, Colton Shaver, who the Jays signed out of an independent league 12 days ago. Spencer Horwitz was the only hitter with two hits, his average is .316.
The Bisons used eight pitchers for the nine inning shutout, it was a bullpen day and a bullpen shutout.
Its a very small sample size but Orelvis Martinez's bat has come alive since the all-star break. Orelvis went 3-4 with two home runs, four RBI, and three runs scored. John Aiello had two hits while Phil Clarke drove in two runs with a single.
Vancouver had a 4-0 lead in the seventh before letting it get away. That opened the door for Jommer Hernandez to hit a game winning home run in the ninth. Hernandez had earlier doubled in a run. It was his first game for the C's after being promoted after the break. Leo Jimenez hit a two run home run in the first inning. Riley Tirotta and Miguel Hiraldo each had two hits.
Abdiel Mendoza went four shutout inning with three K's.
The first Dunedin game was a continuation of the game suspended yesterday in the first inning with the Jays down 2-0. Roque Salinas tripled in two runs to tie the game and a double play ball put Dunedin ahead. However the bullpen gave it back late in the game. Salinas was 3-4.
The second game was close but Fort Myers hit two home runs, a triple and two doubles while Dunedin just had one extra base hit, a double by Estiven Machado. It was one of his two hits. Gabriel Martinez drove in two runs with a single.
Third Star - Roque Salinas
Second Star - Jommer Hernandez
First Star - Orelvis Martinez
