No Abdicating for Abdiel

Buffalo won big and Dunedin and Vancouver came up with big wins in their push for the postseason. New Hampshire let one get away late.

Buffalo 14 Worcester 3

The Herd scored in every inning from the third inning on to open a can of whoop-ass on the WooSox.Vinny Capra had an RBI fielder's choice and RBI single to bracket an L.J. Talley home run. Gabriel Moreno had an RBI double, Yoshi Tsutugo and Spencer Horwitz both singled home a run before Zack Collins put the game out of reach with a grand slam. Otto Lopez had a bases-loaded walk. Talley had five hits that included two doubles and was a triple short of the cycle. Lopez had two doubles, two singles and a walk. Moreno was also on base five times with a double, three walks and a hit by pitch and was pinch-hit for by Chris Bec. Horwitz had two knocks and a walk. Cullen Large had a hit and two free passes.

Casey Lawrence struck out one over two spotless innings. Jackson Rees gave up two runs in the third. Shaun Anderson got the win with two goose eggs. Tayler Saucedo and Colt Griffin put up a zero apiece. Trent Thornton served up a solo homer over two frames in between.


Portland 9 New Hampshire 7

The Fisher Cats scored in six different innings but the Red Sox affiliate scored four times in the eighth for the comeback victory. Orelvis Martinez and Will Robertson had run-scoring singles. Zac Cook had a sacrifice fly and a two-run homer. Phil Clarke had two hits and a walk and Luis De Los Santos had two safeties and a stolen base. Zach Britton had a double and walked three times. Martinez also had a free pass to go along with his base knock. Sebastian Espino heard ball four twice.

Adam Kloffenstein had a rough three innings in which he allowed five runs on five hits and four walks. He also uncorked four wild pitches with only one strikeout. Five of his six outs in play were on the ground. Andrew Bash threw three shutout innings but Jol Concepcion coughed up four runs in 1-2/3 innings to take the loss. Jimmy Burnette picked up the final four outs with no runs given up.


Vancouver 9 Spokane 4

The C's rattled off the first nine runs of the game to knock off the Rockies affiliate. Damiano Palmegiani belted a two-run homer in the first inning. Gabby Martinez and Alex De Jesus also went yard and De Jesus had an RBI double. Andrés Sosa had a sac fly, Rainer Nuñez had an RBI single and Dasan Brown drove in a run with a double. Nuñez, Martinez and De Jesus all had three hits with De Jesus drawing a walk. Brown and Sosa were on base three times with a hit and two walks. Miguel Hiraldo and Michael Turconi had a hit apiece.

Abdiel Mendoza allowed just three hits and a walk and struck out six over six shutout innings for the win. He also got six of his 10 outs in play on the ground. Eric Pardinho and Matt Svanson gave up two runs apiece in their one inning with Pardinho throwing three wild pitches. Sam Ryan spun a scoreless ninth.


Dunedin 9 Tampa 7

Dunedin rallied from a 7-6 deficit against the Yankees affiliate with a run in the seventh and two in the ninth to get the win. Cade Doughty got the D-Jays in flight with a two-run homer in the first. Devonte Brown also went downtown for a two-run shot and scored the tying run in the seventh on a Victor Mesia base hit. Josh Kasevich singled home the winning runs in the ninth. Peyton Williams had three hits and a walk while Kasevich and Mesia had two hits apiece with Kasevich getting hit by a pitch. Brown was also aboard three times with a hit, a walk and a plunk.Alan Roden doubled and walked and Ryan McCarty had a base hit and a base on balls.

Irv Carter was charged with four runs (one earned) over three innings on three hits but walked nobody and struck out four. Alex Amalfi allowed three runs in 1-1/3 innings. Ian Churchill permitted one of two Amalfi runners to score but pitched 2-2/3 shutout innings. Trey Cumbie got the win with two no-hit innings, offsetting two walks with three whiffs.
