Vancouver Canadians

The Vancouver Canadians have already proven some of their championship pedigree when they won the first half Northwest League title and now are a league-best 41-29 overall. They have improved to 3-2 in the second half with last night’s win but if this squad has shown us anything is that they are resilient and find ways to win.

Case in point was Wednesday’s victory over the Spokane Chiefs where they had 9th and 10th-inning comebacks.

Alex De Jesus’ singled to start Vancouver’s half of the 9th inning against Spokane’s Angel Chivilli. With one out Chivilli tossed a wild pitch moving De Jesus to second. Another strikeout followed for the 2nd out of the 9th and that set the table for Kekai Rios. Rios had been on the Fisher Cats roster and was recently assigned to Vancouver. Rios jumped on the first pitch and hit a game-tying single into left field for his first career Canadians hit.

Spokane struck back with two in the top of the 10th to make it 3-1 but Chivilli continued to hurt the Chiefs by hitting Devonte Brown earning the Canadians a free pass. Chivilli continued his yo-yo performance with a strikeout then walked Lyle Lin and Alan Roden helped Vancouver manufacture the second run with a force to make it 3-2.

The Chiefs used their bullpen to bring in Juan Mejia who couldn’t set down Vancouver’s Dasan Brown. Dasan’s sacrifice brought home Devonte, another Brown on the Canadians, to make it 3-3. De Jesus came through again on a walk-off double to complete the comeback and hand Vancouver a 4-3 win.

Buffalo Bisons

The Buffalo Bisons and Worcester Red Sox had their Wednesday game postponed due to field conditions as the sprinkler system malfunctioned and flooded Sahlen Field. Today’s game will be a doubleheader that consists of two seven-inning games beginning at 5:35 p.m local time.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats

Like their Triple-A cousins, The New Hampshire FisherCats fell victim to a postponement as inclement weather cancelled Wednesday’s game against the Portland Sea Dogs. Friday, June 30th will see a doubleheader between the two squads. Both games will be seven innings long.

The Sea Dogs and Fisher Cats play today with RHP Isaac Coffey (0-0, 18.00 ERA) for Portland and RHP Chad Dallas (3-0, 3.27 ERA) for New Hampshire. Keep your eyes on Dallas as he has already earned a promotion from Vancouver this year, the Blue Jays High A Affiliate, and could earn another if he keeps tossing the baseball the way he has. Opposing batters have a .169 average against him and his WHIP is 1.03 to go along with a 3-0 record and 3.27 ERA this season for the Fisher Cats.

Dunedin Blue Jays

Dunedin used a strong performance from JC Masson to complete the comeback win against the St. Lucie Mets.

Dunedin starter Alex Amalfi stumbled out of the gate allowing a grand slam by Kevin Villavicencio to make it 4-0 in the second inning. He then gave up consecutive walks and was removed from the game after an inning and two-thirds.

The Blue Jay’s pitching managed to salvage this game as Felipe Bello allowed one run to make it 5-0 in the 2nd but then went two innings allowing only a walk due to a pitch clock violation. Joey Murray and Brody Rodning both pitched scoreless frames in the fifth and sixth innings.

Dunedin scored in the 4th thanks to Ryan McCarty doubling to left, stealing a base and then scoring on a wild pitch to make it 5-1. In the fifth, Glenn Santiago and JC Masson worked their magic to make it 5-2.

The Blue Jays would tie it in the 8th inning at 5-5 and then go ahead thanks to a three-run homer by JC Masson. Masson had helped make it 5-2 earlier in the game and saved his best for last with the 400 foot bomb to right field.

Dunedin added another in the 9th to get the win and improve to 2-2 in the second half of their season.
