Vancouver Canadians

Any recent updates we have written on the Vancouver Canadians have focused on dramatic come-from-behind walk-offs, clinching first-half pennants and generally sipping champagne on the success of the team so far this season.

Wednesday’s game against the Hillsboro Hops offered none of that as the home team set to work early on the visiting Canadians and drubbed them 11-1.

The Canadians set a hall-of-shame-like record for the franchise when its pitching staff allowed 17 hits – a new single-game season high.

That should really tell you all you need to know about this one as Hillsboro got two runs in the bottom of the first and added four more runs in the third and five in the sixth. Vancouver scored one run in the top of the ninth to break the shutout.

Today’s game sees #9 prospect Adam Macko against Spencer Giesting. First pitch at 7:05 p.m. Macko sits at 2-4 with a 5.98 ERA as well as 50K’s and a WHIP Of 1.52

Buffalo Bisons

The Buffalo Bisons won 5-3 in 12 innings on Wednesday beating the Rochester Red Wings. The second of six in this series between the two clubs was a four-hour marathon game that ended with a strikeout by Bison’s pitcher Trent Thornton. He got the win and improves to 4-0 with a 2.84 ERA in 19 games. Thornton has seen some time with the Toronto Blue Jays as well this year.

The series stays in Rochester for today’s game and wraps on Sunday, July 9th.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats

The New Hampshire Fisher Cats offered the most positive outcome of the night for the affiliates with an 8-3 victory against Hartford Yard Goats to knot that series at one game a piece.

It was the Leo Jimenez show with three hits and five RBIs in this game, the first five-RBI game of his professional career. Toronto’s No. 19 prospect missed only a triple to hit for the cycle. He blasted a three-run homer off Hartford right-hander Mike Ruff, his fifth homer of the season as well.

The Fisher Cats had to score four in the seventh and three in the eighth to get the victory.

The Fisher Cats play again tonight in Hartford with Adam Kloffenstein (4-3, 2.84 ERA) up against Joe Rock (0-4, 4.63 ERA) for Hartford

Dunedin Blue Jays

Like their High-A cousins, the Dunedin Blue Jays were thumped 9-2 by the Tampa Tarpons, a New York Yankees affiliate, on Wednesday.

Dunedin struck first in the bottom half of the first with two runs but Tampa scored one run in the third, four in the fourth, and two in the fifth and ninth innings for the win.

Dunedin falls to 38-39 on the season with the loss and heads back out there tonight against Tampa at TD Ballpark in Dunedin.

Rafael Ohashi heads to the mound for Dunedin. The Blue Jays signed free agent RHP Rafael Viana to a minor league contract back in 2019 with the Brazilian-born player assigned to Brazil in 2020. There is no indication of the name change for the player at the MILB.com website or whether this was done in error.
