Looking at the bigger picture, the Jays have Johnson and Ryan out plus League and apparently now Glaus. Meanwhile, the Yankees have 3/5 of their rotation - Wang's out too along with Pavano an Mussina - as well as Hideki Matsui. While I'd take the Jays top three over the Yankees top 3, not having starting pitching hurts a lot more than relief pitching.

I voted Johnson/Ryan over Mussina/Pavano because BJ and Reed are a more integral part of the Toronto Blue Jays than are Mussina and Pavano are to the Yankees.

It was sort of understood at the beginning of the year (read: two weeks ago), that the Yankees rotation was aged (Pettitte and Mussina), injury prone (Pettitte, Mussina, and Pavano), and due for a drop off in the numbers posted (Pettitte, who was awful in 1H06, Mussina whose '06 was far better than anyone thought and was only given a two-year deal by the Yankees, Wang because he was so young and his numbers seemed to come out of nowhere, and Igawa because he was rocked when he pitched against MLB hitters at the end of last season and had a horrible spring).

At the same time, it was also understood that the Jays had question marks about the durabililty of the front-end of the rotation and quality about the back end and that the team probably wouldn't see a full season of at-bats from both Glaus and Thomas.

So the Yankees are sort of getting what we expected, albeit it to a more critical part of the team (2 starters - one a #1 starter and the other a #4 or #5 starter versus a starting left fielder and a closer) whereas the Jays are experiencing injuries to guys that were expected to contribute for a full season.

I guess that the only thing to say is that today is a good day if you're a Red Sox fan.

I voted Toronto, just because their 2 are going to be out longer then the Yanks 2.

I agree with Hollywood Hartman.  Plus, you have to assume Pavano isn't going to ever pitch so it's really just Mussina to consider.

I voted for the Yankees cause at least we have semi-viable options. Lind will hit just as much as Sparky and Janssen and Marcum have been very pleasant surprises that will soften the blow of no BJ. The Yanks are without 3/5 of their rotation now, and Igawa has been pretty bad. The Yanks are hurting...

The recent Glaus news pretty much obviates this poll entirely, so I am going to remove it and post an entirely different one.
