57 of the first 79 votes (72 percent) go the Rangers way?

I assume they are book favorites in Vegas, too, or I wouldn't have heard Nolan Ryan and Ron Washington on teh radio this morning  procliming "we're not the favorrites. We shouldn't be the favorites." They were practically genuflecting before their inevitable comquerors,  the Mighty Giants ...

Brian Sabean, of all people, has located the latest market inefficiency - the "proven veteran." Five years ago, guys like Huff and Burrell and Uribe would have been signing multi-year deals with lots of zeroes before the decimal point. Now that general type of player is looking desperately for a gig, any gig, and Sabean happily scooped up a bunch of them and rode them and his pitchers to the World Series.

That's what Sabean always does anyway, scoop up "proven veterans.". But now the wheel has turned so far that there's a real payoff...

Been reading Slate, Magpie?

I'm not buying it. Sure, Huff & Burrell are a huge part of the Giants success this season, but show me a winning team that doesn't take little gambles like those. The rest of the keys to the Giants success - Lincecum, Cain, Wilson, Posey, Torres, Jonathan Sanchez, Bumgarner - are not at all "proven veterans" that Sabean has amassed.

Okay, two days later, the numbers now run 71.9 percent Rangers, which is almost precisely where it was in my original post. Seriously, people, thou doth jinxeth thine American League champion brethren!
