I thought this vote would be far more evenly split, but so far it looks like another blowout, this time for Ahrens (I personally voted Arencibia) ... how far are we going to have to go to get a seriously split opinion?

I've  never seen a farm system that inspired such solid "slotting" at 1-2-3. It's not like Cecil was close to #1 or Ahrens was close to #2 ... and from the looks of it, Arencibia, the Jays' "other J.P." might well slot in a blowout in the next poll at #4 even though, so far anyway, he is not close to #3 ...

I'd say 4 but Arencibia has a good 2nd place margin, so probably 5th.

I can't speak for everyone, but as a fairly casual minor league follower, I'm pretty much taking the work done by all of those lists that were put together, and voting that way. If 3-4 sources think It's Snider, Cecil, Ahrens, then that's the information I have. I don't get to see them play, and the major league broadcasts certainly never spend time covering the minors, so the only chance I get to see them is the rare spring training game on TV. And that's been almost a year. Pitchers and Cathcers report soon, right?

I voted "other" with my fingers crossed and touching my wooden desk because I hope that Eric Eiland lives up to his potential. His only weakness appears to be arm strength (so leftfield will work) and his comps to Carl Crawford ("best athlete to come out of Houston since") are encouraging. His build, psychology ( football background), power potential and the asset that separates him from the others, his speed, are all top level and his apparent lack of success in hitting in the GCL was somewhat ameliorated by his almost 300 average with runners in scoring position. 

Mick... since you're from the Houston area any insights, reports or background into Eiland that might separate fact and fiction.

jg, sorry, actually I live in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, North Texas ... that's about 250 miles from Houston, so even if I followed high school sports (I don't) I couldn't help much. As it is, that's just a little closer than asking a Torontonian "Since you live in the Montreal area ..."

I voted Aherns, apparently he has a terrific upside. However, he was yuckish last year and will be in batters hell (Lansing) this season so may not do much. I'm a  bit worried he'll do poorly with the Lugnuts and lose his confidence. Todays BA talk with Matt Eddy about the Jay's prospects was high on him as well.

Generally, I think we've got a half dozen or so serious prospects and literally dozens of reasonable ones.

I like Purcey. I think he's on the verge of putting it all together and most of the other guys I like need a good year in at least low A ball before I'm sold.

I think this is the year Purcey goes McGowan on the league. Even while injured last year, he made a huge improvement in his control: His BB/9 dropped to 2.32 in 2007, after being around 4 or 5 for most of his career, and he kept most of his strikeouts. He seemed to have it all together in the AFL, too.

he may not be on the radar screen yet, (not being a high round pick) but sources tell me that jon talley is on a mission to make his mark this year. working out like a madman. down from 250lbs on draft day to under 225lbs now. we'll see, heh?
