Thanks to Dave Rutt for suggesting this question.

Will the Mets be actively seeking another starter or two this offseason? I guess that question is really,  Do they have money left to spend?, since they clearly need pitchers. I haven't seen their name come up much in rumours (although I'm not a big rumour follower), but they, along with the Yankees, Dodgers, etc... could really drive up the price for starters.

I voted Mets, assuming they will find another pitcher or two for next year, and assuming they could afford it. Which seemed more likely to me than the Jays doing the same.

Pedro's uncertain health actually makes the Mets a greater post-season threat.

They have no choice but  to plan for the season as if Pedro won't contribute (ie add 1 or 2 of  Zito, Schmidt, D-Mat, Pettitte) yet there is a solid chance they may benefit from a healthy, rested Pedro from August  on.

other- I think the Cubs, because this year they will have less pressure than ever to win.

Detroit has a decent chance because it has a pitching surplus. They can deal for a bat or two and maintain a strong pitching staff (which will be very good at fielding bunts by next fall). And Minnesota will be without Liriano in 2007, making the AL Central and/or wild card easier to win.

The Mets probably have to be favourites on this list because of their excellent lineup and weak competition in the NL. As this year showed, getting to the Series is half the battle.
