My vote for Kaline was purely a heart-over-head vote. He was still playing, though near the tail end of his career, when I first became aware of baseball, and I lived 50 miles from Tiger Stadium, so I have no other answer than "Yeah, even as I hit the button, I figured he was actually third or fourth."
Hey, the same sentimentality could have led me to vote for Trammell, so be glad I went with Kaline!

This is one of the easier one you'll find. The Tigers have had some fabulous players, but Cobb is one of the few greatest players ever. He is ranked by baseball reference as #1 in grey ink and #2 in black ink all time.

Sure. The choice was simple, especially because I am Jewish. What I want to know, Mike, is why you, of all people, are so impressed with Cobb's .366/.433/.512? Compared to Greenberg's .313/.412/.605, I'm not sure why that is so much better. Not to mention the fact that Hank earns some bonus points for losing 4 of his prime years to military service, while Ty was known as an aggressive racist who would probably cringe at the thought of a Jew being the greatest Tiger of all time. If this is true (it's from Wikipedia) it just about sums up why the decision was simple for me. "Jackie Robinson said of Greenberg, "Class tells. It sticks out all over Mr. Greenberg."" If Cobb had his way, neither great Hall of Famer would have ever played the game. Shame on you racist anti-semites who voted for Cobb!

Actually, we are voting for the greatest "Tiger". Nowhere in the poll rules does it state anything about voting using a player's perceived abilities. "Greatness" can be defined in more ways than one so it's all relative, but I certainly look at more than just the stats when evaluating it. I wonder how many Giants fans would vote Barry ahead of Mays and McCovey in this sort of poll.
