He's probable to catch Gehrig in 2009.

I think making it to 3000 hits is dependant upon how long Griffey, Sheff, and I-Rod want to play. I think they could all make it if they want to stick around. If any of them have a bad injury, that might be it. Griffey knows he's a lock for the Hall, so he doesn't have to make it as I-Rod probably is also. Sheff would have to make it to 3000 I assume to have a shot at the immortality.

Jeter still looks likely to finish with at least 3500 hits - he could quite easily stand 3rd all time when he's finished.

And if he wants to hang around batting .250 until he's 45 years old the way Pete Rose did... the sky's the limit!

Sheffield has 1 more year IMO in the majors and unless he hits .600 and get 350 hits next year it ain't happening.

Here were Jeter's BBRef comparables at the beginning of the year.  The relevant ones are the middle infielders- Alomar, Frisch, Trammell, Gehringer and Biggio.  Only Biggio got the other 1000.   Jeter's best chance to get there is to move to the outfield or DH, but he doesn't hit enough for that.  I've marked him down for 3150 hits when he retires in 2013.

And very irritating it is. There is a workaround.

Let's  suppose you wanted to link Jeter's page at baseball-reference.com - you would highlight the URL to copy it, go back to your BB editing box and click on the little chain link. Ae pop-up window emerges, and you paste the Jeter link into it and click OK.

Except now the pop-up box doesn't go away, and you have inserted a link to nowhere. If you click on the Source Tab in your BB editing box, you will see that you've inserted a link to <a href="javascript:void(0);/*1221148905495*/">.

So stay in the Source editing box. The Jeter information that you highlighted and copied is still alive in your computer's clipboard. So highlight the material between the two quote (") marks and delete it. Now, between the two quote marks, HIT CTRL-V (Paste) and Voila! - you have a real honest-to-God working link. Click mine above and see for yourselves!

'Tis a royal pain in the arse, I grant you. The long and short of it is the linking tab no longer works. But it does at least give you the proper HTML headers and stuff, it just inserts gibberish for the actual linking information. You have to go into the Source code to fix it.

And now I'm in Google Chrome, where we find a different problem. In Chrome, the BB editing buttons don't even show up. You would have to actually type out the HTML headers and stuff, which always requiring bring up reference materials for a fellow like me!

Yikes - is it possible that the most efficient tool for navigating the Box is now Internet Explorer? That really goes against the grain.

Speaking of Google Chrome, does anyone have a clear understanding of what the deal is with their EULA? Apparently there's some kind of clause in there that says that Google owns anything you type onto the internet through Chrome, or something that sounds like that.

Who are the people that put Jeter as the least likely to reach 3,000? He'll need about 150 hits over the next 3 years to make it. The other guys, I just don't see, I could see a bounce-back year from Sheffield, but he has always walked too much to get a lot of hits, so a bounce-back year might be 130 hits or so. Griffey and Pudge look more like part-timers now and should both think about retiring.
