Is the fact that he realizes the world won't end if the Bosox lose affecting his hitting? Well, I think he's slugging close to a thousand, so I'm guessing no. How anyone could pillory him for putting things in perspective is beyond me. He's hitting like a man on fire, so if they do lose it's not because Manny doesn't care enough. I hate when the media makes comments like these into a hot story. Would they rather he hung himself if the Sox lose tonight?

Manny can say whatever he wants.

Baseball is a game of failure, and to be quite honest, his attitude is what has made him successful and the career leader in post season HRs (he also has a 1.613 OPS!!! this post season).  He is pulling his weight.  You've seen what happens with people who think too much about failure (A-rod) and what happens to their respective games when it is all on the line.  Probably not the best thing to say in the media, but yeah, more baseball players would probably be enjoying a good deal more sucess if they took Manny's attitude to heart.  What ever happens, happens.

Nicely put! I think Manny just gave the press an unusual quote, and they aren't about to ignore it - they're going to use it to sell a few more papers.

I've been watching the game while I do some homework (not working out so well...) and it's been an odd night for Manny. He's 2/2 so far, but he ran into an out at home (not even close), didnt run hard on a double for Grady Sizemore that led to a run, then hit a ball off the top the outfield wall - for a single! Oh, and we're still only in the Third. I would say that it's a typical Manny night, as he's done some very good things and some very dumb ones, but he's just better than that. Calling it an absolutely typical Manny night is something a bad journalist would do, and probably will do in tomorrow's papers.

A sure sign of a slow news day, now that the Torre thing has been done to death, is critiquing the life and times of Manny Ramirez. What's the matter, were Paris and Lindsay not out clubbing?
