If he represents the Jays on the All-Star team it will probably be because the season has horribly gone wrong ala 2004.

I doubt he wil be an *incredibly useful* bat off the bench.

The fans won't give him abuse because he's Canadian.

I don't think he can "disappoint" too much since not much is expected.

I doubt he'll be released, because even in a poor year I bet he could be traded.

No, he'll probably be a moderately useful, decent bat off the bench that nobody spends much time talking about.

Be an offensively better option than Royce Clayton, John McDonald, Russ Adams, or Chris Gomez (?) when  Mariano Rivera, Joe Nathan, Bobby Jenks, Francisco Rodriguez, etc are on the mound.

Agree with King Ryan. I voted option 2, but I'd remove the adjective "incredibly."

...  amaze us all with his dead-on Sly Stone impression; be suspended for 10 games for violating the league's excessive flatulence policy; enter into a symbiotic mind-meld with A.J. Burnett that gives Burnett both super powers and the ability to say "hoose" and "aboot"; burrow a tunnel under the visiting bullpen to repeatedly steal their candy bucket; and equal a Guinness World Record by eating an entire bicycle.

He'll be  a productive (though not incredibly so) bat off the bench, but will disappoint greatly when pressed into full-time DH service when Frank Thomas spends a couple of weeks on the DL.

He sure grew into his man-strength!

Matt Stairs will gain fame this year for none of these things.  Rather, the Jays will cause a sensation at the end of the season when they announce that a likeness of Stairs- "the Stairs-Master" (complete with whip) will be their new mascot for 2008.  Fitness Ontario will indicate their support for this new mascot and point out that the voluntary approach to the 7th inning stretch wasn't working.  Youppi will put in an application for the Stairs-Master job.
