Brooks was also known as "Hoover" as I recall, which I believe was a brand of vaccuum cleaner back in his day.
No one even heard of "Harold Reese" or "Charles Nichols," and hardly anyone ever heard "now pitching, George Ruth." These are powerful arguments for each of those nicknames, Kid, Pee Wee, and Babe.
And Kid Nichols is one of my favourites, one of the greatest and most completely forgotten players ever.
But damn - I still have to go with "Scooter" - it was just such a great nickname for a quick little defensive whiz.
Hoover was the Cadillac of American vacuum cleaners, as Maytag was to washer/dryers. Brooks was no ordinary vacuum cleaner. Funny, the name would have even better for a third baseman playing on artifical turf..."he really cleans the rug".
