Dodgers' prospects trump all in the Twins' mind I think, but they don't seem to be as interested.  I think they'd prefer Bedard.

I said Red Sox - 'cause it's either Yanks or Red Hose and Yanks need him more. Our road to the Wild Card is easier if the Yanks don't improve.

My vote goes to the Yanks simply because they cannot afford for the Red Sox to get him.  The Twins know this and so do the yankees, the twins are really going to make the Yanks pay.

Not exactly on topic, but I suspect trading Santana for one of Buchholz, Chamberlain, or Hughes alone would be a win for the Twins. Five or six years of one of those pitchers at a low cost on nothing but one year deals is probably better than five or six at $25M+/year of Santana, all of it locked in.

Dealing expensive, old, and better players for young, cheap, and unproven ones is not a bad idea. The Vernon Wells deal was not a bad one at the time he signed it, but I really wonder what JP could have had for the man.

That is an interesting thought. you have to think it would have/could have been a boatload.

And I think the way this market is shaping up , no matter who gets Santana, they are going to regret it long term.

The Wells deal was never a good one.

He's going to be a below average corner OF by 2009.

Rios should have been playing CF for the Jays last year with a crop of young talent (middle infielder/SP) coming back our way in a Wells trade.

Hey, I love Wells, watched him play CF in Community Park as a St. Catharines Blue Jay, but sentiment doesn't win you playoff births in the AL East.

In my mind, the Angels are going to blow away any Yankees offer after the Marlins keep upping the price for Cabrera; the Angels will get sick of the Marlin's [supposed] games and instead go to the Twins.  If the Angels miss out on Cabrera, maybe JP will offer up Glaus and see if they bite.

That's awfully pessimistic and I don't think it is justified.  You're saying Wells has only one year remaining in CF and that he'll never acheive even a low-800s OPS again?  I know Vernon had a bad year, but he's 28 and only 1 season removed from offensive numbers that are well above average even for 1B or RF.
