I thought the Yankees would start out just dandy, then fade toward the end of the year.  What's going to happen when all these old players start going out with injuries!?

If you put "Yankees" and "dandy" in the same sentence, I go into a song and dance and my teenage kids die of embarrassment.  Words can kill, all right...

The Yankees rocky start and JJ Hardy's power are the early season surprises for me.  Hardy's career season high for homers is 12 in double A in 2003.  I doubt that he'll be within 20 of Prince Fielder's total when the dust settles, but that still might be 25-30.

Certainly the Yankees, but honourable mention to the 31-23 Arizona Diamondbacks who are going to get better with time.

NO votes for the New Brew Crew? Seriously, did anyone see this coming? (I didn't vote for them because I voted NYY ... as mentioned above, I thought they might fade toward the end, but my own season preview of them foresaw 97 wins, which, uh, ain't happening. (Well, they could go 76-36 to finish, but that seems less than likely.)

Granted, Thomas' season preview of MIL here on Da Box pegged them for 85 wins, but I personally at the time thought that a bit optimistic.  They're on pace for 90 wins and a division title. Who saw that coming?

I'll admit the Brewers are quite surprising, especially since they are doing it without any real positive contribution from Dave Bush.

If each of these scenarios were presented before the season, I would have scoffed at most but I think Hardy's line takes the cake. I think the Brewers would have had a lot more votes a couple weeks ago.

No one expects the Spanish Inquisition, and no one expects 35 year old catchers with .270 lifetime averages to hit .360 for a period longer than two or three weeks.

My thoughts exactly Magpie, thus my vote for went to Posada as well.

You could analyse the Yankee's record, but with their staff a bad start is hardly suprizing to me. I do however expect them to finish strong.
