I wasted my vote on alernate, meaning no trade, but if I had to pick a team, it would be a team that's least likely to be playing at the Rogers Centre in the future, so probably the Nationals, since our rival is changing to Philly. I wouldn't be able to control myself seeing Vernon play against the Jays live. Simply stated, it would be too much.

I voted alternate cause the last thing the Jays need are more marginal prospects. Here's my wild ass trade ..

Cubs get Vernon Wells,
Rockies get Felix Pie, Shea Hillenbrand, Jamie Vermilyea,
Jays get Todd Helton and $30mil (to cover half of Helton's contract).

Cubs get the centerfielder they need so badly. Rocks get three guys tailor made for coors (and cheap). Jays get a first baseman that can hit. Cubs probably need to throw in one of their pitching prospects (or chunk of change) to even out everything.

Personally I think all those options are unrealistic for the Jays. All those trades listed have the Jays going backwards. If you were looking to dump salary perhaps it's a possibility but the Jays are in the opposite camp now.

If the Jays trade Wells it's either going to be for an established player of similar ability (and most likely in a different position), or if it is for a prospect it's only going to be for a stud hitting prospect.

How does Dioner Navarro stack up with the other catching prospects in baseball these days? He used to rank in the top 3 or so.

I voted for the Crisp Davis combo. But I think Riccirdi could sweeten that one up a bit.

Davis is unrealised potential and personally I'm starting to think he will not live up to it.

I'd want Ludwick thrown into the mix to do this.
Cristian - Saturday, June 25 2005 @ 12:36 PM EDT (#120663) #
Didn't Ludwick just clear waivers? If so, the Jays could have had him for free. All these trades are ridiculous. Unless a marquee player is coming back, why trade away Wells?

Cristian, you're exactly wrong about those trade offers being "ridiculous." One of the reasons I posted the poll was to get out there a general idea of what I think other teams might reasonably offer for Wells. I was making a best guess, as I noted it's all wildly unfounded idle speculation, but even in these cases, I think definitely Texas and LA, probably Cleveland and maybe Washington would would balk at the trade I came up with. The Cubs (in both cases) and Phillies would likely jump at the deal I have up there.

As Neyer has pointed out ad infinitum, fans tend to overrate their own and underrate other teams' players and way overrate their own and way underrate other team' prospects.

I think the problem is as Pistol and I have pointed out is that none of the trades listed actually address the Jays needs.

No one's commented on my trade proposal. I think Cubs, Rockies and Jays fans would be upset by it, so I think it's reasonably fair!

I voted for the Washington package. Church would look nice in RF with Rios shifted over to CF. Schneider's the best defensive catcher in baseball and while his bat is nothing special it's not like he's Brad Ausmus or Mike Matheny.

Colour me confused by the support for the Texas package. Nix will give you Ryan Church's performance if he reaches his potential, something that looks less and less likely by the day. And I just can't believe anyone still thinks Adrian Gonzalez is going to hit for any sort of power.

Over a year ago, I said on Da Box that I would trade any Jay not named Halladay or Wells for Nick Johnson. That list of I-Wouldn't-Trade-Him-for-Nick-the-Stick players is now comprised of only Halladay.

If they make any of those trades they should fire the administration immediately.
