Is it anyone other than the Padres?  The team with the worst record in baseball and they're actually *outperforming* their Pythag? 

They've got a team OPS+ of 83.  Team ERA+ of 87. 

They have two position players (including their bench and any call-ups) that have an OPS+ of 90 or higher (128 and 134 though).  You don't get worse than that on offense.  Even Washington has 5.

They have 3 pitchers who have thrown more than 15 innings with an ERA+ of 100 or higher (out of 10 total).  Of the 5 pitchers who have started 6 or more games - only 1 has an ERA+ above 100 and 3 have an ERA+ of 85 or lower.

Convincing argument, CJF. I admit, my choice was absent stats and completely based on the "smell test."

When I see the Giants box score or see them on the tee-vee, something stinks.

The Blue Jays should relocate to Vancouver and play out of the NL West.

 

All this year I've been thinking of how big of a turnaround Arizona has had ... now I look at this and realize that arguably the 3 worst teams in the majors are all in their division.  I always knew that each of the Padres, Rockies, and Giants were doing bad, but never realized they were this bad.

A team is going to look good when 17 of their first 46 games are against 3 teams each below .400.

Josh Bard's 2008 covers a few of the points we have been mooting about recently rather nicely. "Underperformance".  "Execrable catcher's defence".  "Missed pitches".  It's hard to be -3 Win Shares Above Bench at this stage of the season, but he's managed it. 

Who voted for the Tigers or the Brewers?

I wanted to vote for Cleveland (that 'right now' clause again), but I am also confident that they are really better than every team on this list.
