Daniel Norris pitched in from of Alex Anthopoulos on Wednesday and the results were mixed. Norris was victimized somewhat by his teammates but he only had one strikeout. AA could have gone to AA to see John Anderson and two relievers shutout Portland. Dalton Pompey had two hits. AA could have gone to Lansing to see Chris Carlson hit a tenth inning go ahead and game winning home run.
Dunedin and Jairo Labourt were beaten up, Vancouver had no offense, Angel Perdomo had a Jekyll and Hyde start for Bluefield and the GCL Jays came out on the wrong end of a walk-off.
Gwinnett 6 Buffalo 2
Alex Antholoulos made the trip to Buffalo to see Daniel Norris start. Norris gave up five runs but pitched better than that. In the third inning Norris walked the lead off hitter then slipped when attempting to field a bunt putting two on. The next hitter bunted too and catcher Sean Ochinko elected to try for the force at third but the throw was late. The bases were loaded and no ball had gone more than 30 feet. The next hitter flew out to left and the runner on third went for home. The throw was in time but Ochinko dropped the ball, he then tried to throw out the hitter at second and that let another runner come home to score. Then a wild pitch on a strikeout brought in the fourth run, the Buffalo broadcast crew thought it was a passed ball. In the next inning, left fielder Alex Hassan slipped, turning a single into a triple. That led to a fourth run. Norris did give up a couple more runs, one in the sixth and one in the seventh. Norris' line was 7 6 6 4 2 1. Norris was better than his line but not dominant.
The hitters did not impress AA, Sean Ochinko hit a two run home run to account for all the runs.
New Hampshire 2 Portland 0
Three pitchers combined for the shutout. John Anderson went 6.2 innings, didn't walk anyone and had 4 K's. Chad Girodo relieved Anderson and went four up, four down. Wil Browning went three up, three down for the save.
New Hampshire got their first run in the third, Ian Parmley, Jorge Flores and Dalton Pompey all singled. In the fifth Dwight Smith singled in Parmley who had walked. Pompey, Smith and Parmley led the offense with two hits each.
Brevard County 12 Dunedin 3
Jairo Labourt was just named to play in the prospects game. He will need to pitch better than he did on Wednesday. In five innings he allowed 8 hits and 3 walks leading to 6 runs. Alberto Tirado did well in three shutout innings, three hits given up. Matt Dermody was tattoo'd for 6 runs in the ninth.
JD Davis had three hits for the Jays. Mitch Nay drove in two runs with a double, LB Dantzler drove in the third run with another double.
Lansing 3 South Bend 2 - 10 innings
Chris Carlson hit a home run with two outs in the top of the tenth inning for the win. Carlos Ramirez got the win by pitching three innings. Catcher Michael De La Cruz gets credit for throwing out a lead off single trying to steal in the bottom of the tenth. Ramirez replaced Starlyn Suriel who went seven innings, eight hits, two walks, four K's.
De La Cruz went 3-4 with an RBI in addition to the caught stealing. Ryan McBroom had two hits, , Boomer Collins had the other RBI.
Spokane 3 Vancouver 0
Number one pick Jon Harris started for the Canadians. He was charged with one run in three innings on three hits with just one K. Jon Wandling wne t five and gave up two runs.
But the offense was shutout on six hits. Gunnar Heidt and Kevin Garcia each had two of the hits.
Bluefield 4 Burlington 5
The Jays went down 5-1 and fell just short in their rally. They out hit the Bees 13-6. Angel Perdomo had one really bad inning. Over six innings he gave up five hits, but four of them were in one inning, and two of them were home runs. Grayson Huffman pitched two shutout innings to lower his ERA to 12.
Deiferson Barreto hit his first home run of the season and a triple too. Rodrigo Orozco, Christian Williams and Freddy Rodriguez also had two hits. Mattingly Romanin had two Sac Flies.
GCL Jays 4 GCL Yankees 5
The Jays battled back twice to tie the game but lost in a bottom of the ninth walk off when Jays shortstop Andrew Florides made a two out throwing error. 18 year old Hansel Rodriguez started for the Jays and held the Yankees hitless through four. But he lost it in the fifth, three hits including two triples led to three Yankee runs.
Levi Scott, 28th round pick, had a double and a home run. Owen Spiwak from Mississauga, 10th round, also had two hits. Bryan Lizardo, 17 years old, had a triple and has his average up to .308.
