Well, the trades have started. Let's have a clean thread for this

  1. Jameson Taillon acquired for cash or a PTBNL. Seems about right - guy isn't much now 69 ERA+ in 76 IP over 15 starts.  But we need someone to start for the rest of 2026.  He was good last year 108 ERA+ in 129 2/3 IP over 23 starts and 122 ERA+ in '24 over 165 1/3 IP.  A free agent at the end of 2026, clearly here to eat innings. Biggest plus is it put  Lenyn Sosa on the 60 day IL
  2. Gausman traded for minor league outfielder Brett Bateman (LH 24 years old, AAA, 312/431/422 20-3 SB-CS Cubs #21 prospect, 8th round 2023 draft) and infielder Ty Southisene (RH 20 years old, A+/A this year 311/431/378 31-6 SB-CS, Cubs #13 prospect, 4th round pick from 2024) from the Cubs. Neither has ever been a top 100 prospect. Prospect rankings from MLB.com. I'm underwhelmed.
  3. Acquire José Soriano - right-hander José Soriano from the Angels for Arjun Nimmala & OF  Eddie Micheletti & RHP Angel Rivero. Yikes, our #2 prospect and 2 other interesting kids for 2 years+ of Soriano - I wonder if the Jays will try to do a Berrios and extend him early on.
  4. Rangers, Blue Jays Swap Josh Smith, Adam Macko Weird one - Macko has been very useful as a pen part with 2 more years of options ahead of him, Smith (a LH IF/OF 94 OPS+ lifetime, 68 this year after 2 years in the 110's) was demoted despite making over $3 mil this year. Feels like a 'next shoe to drop soon' deal.  Jays also get minor leaguer Josh Stephan a 24 year old RHP in AAA with a 5.44 ERA - looks like filler for Buffalo.
