Not much else to say. One win in five tries including a blowout. Luckily, the one win featured a nice start by a top prospect.
Tacoma 9 Las Vegas 7
J.P. Arencibia continued his hot streak on Sunday with a double and his 8th homer. Over his past 10 games, Arencibia is hitting .366/.357/.805. Yup, a lower OBP than SLG but that's what you get with J.P.
Chris Lubanski also had a pair of hits, including a triple, while Kyle Phillips had two hits of his own. Luis Figueroa had three while Brett Wallace went 1-for-4 without striking out.
Old Marty McLeary took the hill for the 51s and was pretty brutal, as usual. He's now 0-4 for Vegas with an ERA of 11.33. Zach Jackson worked 3 innings allowing just one hit but walked four.
Trenton 13 New Hampshire 2
Ouch. Luis Perez got rocked in this one, going 5 and allowing seven runs (four earned) on 7 hits and two walks while striking out four. Boomer Potts (awesome name) and Danny Farquhar each fared as miserably while Tim Collins struck out two in scoreless frame.
Just when virtually everyone had completely written off David Cooper, he started one of the most impressive streaks of his professional career. Cooper homered again on Sunday to give him five on the year and four in his past 8 games. His season line still sucks but he's put up an OPS of almost 1.200 in his last ten games.
Darin Mastroianni, Callix Crabbe, and Adam Loewen each reached base twice with a hit and a walk. Crabbe stole his 12th base. Loewen's season is starting to look pretty impressive. Entering today's game his line stood at .268/.366/.440. Would be a nice story.
Charlotte 3 Dunedin 2 (Game 1)
The D-Jays dropped a double-header on Sunday thanks to a fairly lifeless offense. Adeiny Hechavarria was 1-for-4 with a double, strikeout, and error (4) while Travis D'Arnaud went 0-for-2 with an RBI. Tyler Pastornicky was the only other D-Jay of note, singling and stealing his 14th base.
Joel Carreno started and was quite effective going five innings, allowing 2 runs on three hits and four walks while striking out ten. Alan Farina took the loss, allowing a run in his two frames.
Charlotte 5 Dunedin 3 (Game 2)
Pretty much a carbon copy of the opener. Yan Gomes had the only two RBI while Hechavarria went 1-for-4 with a double, two strikeouts, error (5), and his second stolen base. He sure is consistent. Joe Morgan would love that. The D-Jays struck out 11 times in 7 innings. There really isn't much else to say.
Kenny Rodriguez started and was ineffective going 4.2 and allowing four runs on eight hits and four walks. He struck out three. His season line stands at a fairly odd 3-1, 7.80 ERA.
Lansing 4 South Bend 3
Three longballs for the Lugnuts today as A.J. Jimenez, Bradley Glenn, and Oliver Dominguez all went yard. Dominguez's was part of a 2-for-3, 2 RBI day. I'm getting more and more intrigued by Jimenez by the day. Despite some struggles of late, his season line sits at a very respectable .314/.355/.430 (not including today). Couple that with 10 SB and you've got a pretty interesting 20 year-old catcher.
Chad Jenkins continued his string of recent success with a strong outing. The 2009 first rounder went six and allowed seven hits but walked nobody and didn't allow a run. He struck out five. Steve Turnbull worked the 9th for his 12th save.
