The farm went 4-1 and Lance Broadway and Kyle Drabek's 3/1 GB/FB ratio were the worst of the 4 starters.
Colorado Springs 7 at Las Vegas 12
Well, boom goes the dynamite. This one was close until the 5th, when, as mentioned, boom went the dynamite. The 51s struck for 10 runs against Colorado Springs, and that was that. How do you score 10 runs in an inning? Well, you go double, sac bunt, single, homer, single, single, double, single, homer, single, walk, single, flyout, double, walk, strikeout. Las Vegas walked 4 times and had 16 hits, half of which were for extra bases. Jorge Padilla and Luis Figueroa both had 3 hits in the 1 and 2 holes; Figueroa is hitting .358 now, albeit without a ton of walks or power. Brett Wallace, JP Arencibia, Adam Calderone and Brad Emaus each had 2 hits, while Brian Dopirak had a hit and a walk. Jonathan Diaz was the only 51 without a hit. Calderone and Figueroa each had a homer and a double, while JP Arencibia hit homer number 11.
Lance Broadway took the ball for the 51s, and continued a run of mediocre/PCL-like starts. He went 6.2 and gave up 4 runs on 9 hits and a walk, whiffing 7. His GB/FB ratio was 3/1. Merkin Valdez and Steven Register were both scored on in relief.
New Hampshire 3 at Akron 4
It was a case of too litle too late last night in Akron. The Fisher Cats were held hitless through six, and fell behind 2-0 as Kyle Drabek gave up a solo home run in the first and a single-double-rbi groundout in the 4th. The bats finally came alive in the 8th and 9th (sort of.) In the 8th the Cats went BB, K, HBP, reached on error, BB (scoring a run) and GIDP. They promptly gave that run back in the bottom half of the inning plus another for good measure, as Vince Bongiovanni, who's been terrible all year, gave up a single, a triple and a sac fly. In the 9th the Cats went K, BB, BB, single, K, single, flyout to end the game. So it seems fair to say there was some excitement. As mentioned Kyle Drabek got the start, and though he only gave up 2 runs in five innings, it wasn't a great start: he walked 4 against 1 K, with the silver lining being his 3/1 GB:FB ratio. The Fisher Cats had 3 hits and drew 7 walks. Adam Loewen and Brian Jeroloman had two free passes apiece and Shawn Bowman doubled for New Hampshire's only extra base hit.
Clearwater 3 at Dunedin 10
The D-Jays may have lost the name battle to the Threshers but they won the on-field matchup. They scored in the first three innings to take a commanding 5-0 lead and never looked back. Adeiny Hechavarria walked and stole second to lead off the game before Brad McElroy doubled him in. In the second the hot John Tolisano doubled, followed by a Brian Van Kirk single and an RBI GIDP. In the third McElroy singled for his second hit, and it was his turn to steal a base before Travis d'Arnaud drove him in with a double and Micheal McDade cashed two more with a homer, his 12th on the year. Dunedin struck again in the 6th off the recently demoted Phillipe Aumont. Tolisano homered, and after 4 walks, a single and a double (not in that order) the D-Jays had plated another 5. While all of this was going on the rehabbing Scott Richmond was having a go at it. He went 5.2 innings and allowed 2 runs, 1 earned on 4 hits, 2 walks and 2 strikeouts. 13 of his 15 outs in play were on the ground.
Tallying up the offensive side of the ledger: though Dunedin only had 10 hits, 6 of them were for extra bases, and they also drew 6 walks and stole 4 bases. Sounds like a winning formula to me. McDade did the most damage with a homer and a double and 4 RBI. Meanwhile Tolisano was 2/3 with a walk, homer and double, Welinton Ramirez was 2 for 4, as was McElroy, who also doubled, walked and scored twice. Adeiny just had the one walk, while Travis d'Arnaud walked and doubled in his four plate appearances, scoring twice.
Lansing 7 at Peoria 3
This one was scoreless through the top of the sixth when AJ Jiminez doubled home two. Peoria would get one back in the bottom half of the inning, but Lansing tacked on 5 more in the 7th on a Jiminez grand slam to put it out of reach. Chad Jenkins continued his streak of solid performance by going 7 strong innings. He allowed all 3 Peoria runs on 8 hits. He walked none and struck out 3, while 15 of 18 outs on the ground. Lansing only reached base safely 10 times, but a few timely errors, hit batsmen, passed balls and wild pitches didn't help Peoria's cause. As you may have guessed AJ Jiminez was the star - he drove in 6 with his homer and double. Oliver Dominguez also had two hits, while Kenny Wilson singled, walked twice and scored twice.
