Dunedin Is Playoff Bound!

The Dunedin Blue Jays are the first-half champions of the Florida State League North Division.


Meanwhile, the American affiliates had a 3-3 day while two Lansing Lugnuts saw action in the Midwest League All-Star Game.

Las Vegas 12 Sacramento 10

Las Vegas, NV - The 51's scored twice in the eighth to snap a 10-10 tie.  They put together a 4-3-2-1 countdown from the second to the fifth inning.

Batting - Brian Dopirak, Chris Lubanski and Brad Emaus had three hits and three runs batted in apiece with Dopirak and Emaus clubbing homers.  J.P. Arencibia had two doubles and two walks and Jeremy Reed had a hit, a hit by pitch and three walks.  Mike McCoy and Brett Wallace had two hits apiece.  Luis Figueroa had a double and Adam Calderone drew a walk so every 51 got on base at least once.

Running - McCoy and Reed each stole a base.

Pitching - Rei Gonzalez was lit up for seven runs on nine hits (including three homers) and three walks over five innings while striking out four and getting eight groundouts.  Lefty Zach Jackson gave up a run on a hit and a walk and struck out a man over 1 1/3 innings to get a hold.  Gonzalez and Jackson each threw a wild pitch.  Josh Roenicke blew the save but wound up with the victory despite giving up two runs on three hits and a walk over 1 2/3 innings but he did strike one batter out.  Jeremy Accardo allowed just one walk in the ninth for his 10th save of the season.

Defence - Arencibia made a throwing error but he also picked off a runner at third.  Emaus started a 5-3 double play with Wallace.

Harrisburg 4 New Hampshire 3

Harrisburg, PA - The Fisher Cats scored three in the sixth to take a 3-2 lead but the Nationals affiliate responded with two runs in their half of the sixth to take the lead for good.

Batting - Shawn Bowman had the only multi-hit game for the Fisher Cats and the only two extra-base hits with a homer and a double.  Darin Mastroianni had a hit and a walk.  Eric Thames, David Cooper, Jonathan Jaspe and Callix Crabbe had the other hits with Thames getting an RBI.

Running - Mastroianni was picked off and caught stealing but still managed to make it to second on a throwing error by the catcher.

Pitching - Kyle Drabek allowed all four runs in seven innings while giving up seven hits and a walk but struck out five.  He allowed one homer but only walked one and recorded eight groundball outs.  Danny Farquhar allowed one hit and struck out one in a scoreless eighth.

Defence - Brian Jeroloman threw out a runner at second from behind the dish.

Tampa 3 Dunedin 0 (7 Innings - Game 1)

Dunedin, FL - This game was scoreless after five innings but the Yankees scored once in the sixth and added two more in the seventh to take game one of this doubleheader.

Batting - To quote Bob Uecker in Major League, "One hit?  That's it?  Just one GD hit?".  That was all the D-Jays mustered in the hit column and they only drew one GD walk as well.  John Tolisano had the hit and Tyler Pastonicky drew the walk.

Running - Tolisano was picked off but Pastornicky stole his 18th base of the season.

Pitching - The rehabbing Scott Richmond allowed just one hit over four scoreless innings while striking out a trio of Yankees to along with five groundouts.  Lefty Frank Gailey took the loss by allowing a run on two hits over two innings but he did strike three men out.  Dan DeLucia gave up two runs on three hits and a walk in the seventh but also struck out two.

Defence - Travis d'Arnaud threw one away for his first error of the season and Pastornicky booted one.

Dunedin 4 Tampa 0 (Game 2 - 7 Innings)

Dunedin, FL - The D-Jays earn the split by scoring once in the second, once in the fourth and twice in the fifth.

Batting - Yan Gomes provided the only run Dunedin would need with a homer in the second.  He drove in three of the four runs in this game.  Travis d'Arnaud, Michael McDade and Brian Van Kirk each had two hits with McDade getting an RBI and Van Kirk collecting a double.  Tyler Pastornicky, John Tolisano and Welinton Ramirez each had a single.  Brad McElroy and Adeiny Hechavarria were hitless and Hechavarria is now a point below the Mendoza Line at .199.

Running - No thefts on the basepaths in this one.

Pitching - Chad Beck pitched 4 2/3 shutout innings and allowed just two hits and a walk.  Alan Farina earned the win by stranding two of Beck's runners and allowed two hits in 1 1/3 scoreless frames.  Matt Daly gave up a walk but locked things down in a scoreless seventh.

Defence - Gomes was 0-for-1 in throwing out base stealers, Ramirez botched a fly ball in right but McDade and Hechavarria turned a 3-6-3 double play.

Midwest League All-Star Game:  East 6 West 2

Highlights - Lansing Lugnut representatives Ryan Schimpf had a base hit in his lone at-bat while lefty Aaron Loup gave up a run on two hits but struck out a batter over two-thirds of an inning for the East.

Auburn 5 Mahoning Valley 0

Niles, OH - Two runs in the second, two in the fourth and one in the ninth gave the D-Days the victory over the Indians affiliate.

Batting - John Roberts was the only Doubleday to get two hits while Lance Durham homered and walked.  Marcus Brisker, Carlos Perez, Matt Johnson, Marcus Knecht and Yeico Aponte each had a base knock and Oliver Dominguez drew a walk.  Randy "Bermuda" Schwartz, the former Barrie Baycat, was the only player not to reach base.

Running - Aponte stole a base but Johnson could not do the same as he was picked off.

Pitching - Asher Wojciechowski spun four scoreless innings by scattering three hits and two walks while striking out a pair.  Eight of his outs in play were on the ground.  Scott Gracey got the win with three scoreless innings where he allowed just one hit and struck out three.  Drew Permison allowed just two walks over two scoreless frames and also struck out three.

Defence - Durham had a clank at first but there were a pair of 6-4-3 double plays turned by Johnson, Dominguez and Durham.

GCL Phillies 2 GCL Blue Jays 1

Dunedin, FL - The G-Phils opened the scoring in the first and ended it in the eighth with the winning run.  The G-Jays scored their lone marker in the fifth.

Batting - Ronald Melendez, K.C. Hobson and Pierce Rankin accounted for the three hits the G-Jays had in this one with Rankin getting the lone extra-base hit with a double.  Melendez and Jake Marisnick each drew a pair of walks while Michael Crouse and Matt Abraham also took ball four.

Running - Crouse and Marisnick each stole their second base  of the season while Melendez was gunned down trying to steal.

Pitching -
Cobourg, Ontario native Nick Purdy allowed one unearned run on a hit while plunking a man over five innings.  Dan Barnes struck out two over two perfect frames.  Lefty Michael Kelly also struck out two over two frames but allowed one run on two hits and a walk to take the loss.  He also uncorked a wild pitch.

Defence - Chris Hawkins booted one at third in the first inning that allowed the Phillies leadoff man to score after he reached on a hit by pitch.  Kelly picked off a runner at first.
