Is that it? Dunedin clinches and no mention. Woj 4 scoreless innings in his Auburn debut. For a complete summary of the Jays draft, with a paragraph on each and every player, check out MLB Bonus Babies. Jays are the organization that is reviewed today.

I believe that this is the early game draft.  :)

Great feature photo on the home page. Where'd you get it?

Good to see Scott Richmond do so well in his first rehab start. A backup for any injuries to our staff (knock on wood) or to eat a few innings come September as the kids are shut down would be good.

Who would Richmond replace? If you assume Marcum/Romero/Cecil/Morrow/Litsch are safe and Rzep is the first backup then the pen is the place for him. Gregg/Camp/Downs are 100% safe, Frasor/Janssen have ugly matching 77 ERA+'s, Purcey is just getting experience, and Tallet has been very, very poor (3 2/3 IP in relief with 5 runs allowed, after 5 starts where 1 was great, 1 good, the rest poor). I'd lean towards dumping Tallet myself with Frasor/Janssen the next two on the 'bye bye' list.

The picture was on milb.com and on the Dunedin Jays website.  The picture was taken by Jim Goins whose work was featured here on Batters Box last Sunday.

Some scattershot observations: JP Arencibia is raking. I'm getting increasingly excited about his impending call-up. Emaus, too. Granted, it's Vegas. And Emaus hasn't really hit a skid yet this year. But both players' performances are awfully encouraging. Will be interesting to see what kind of impression Hoffpauir makes as a backup infielder these next couple weeks. Hard to see how we'll be able to keep Emaus down beyond August at this point.

On the whole, Kyle Drabek's looking good but the recent K/BB ratios aren't strong. Can anyone who's seen him report whether this seems to stem from his problems with consistently repeating his mechanics or if he looks bored? Lots of AA time under his belt at this point. Looks like we're adopting the Tampa Bay model. Not a bad thing... but it does pique my curiosity. Meanwhile, Zech Zinicola got the save in AA against us. Looks like a useful bullpen arm. Sure, we lost him. But credit to Anthopoulos and LaCava for identifying another useful part.

Scott Richmond looks ready for Las Vegas. And Rey Gonzalez has gotta either move to the pen or back to AA. How long can this continue?Looks like Chad Beck could easily replace Richmond as a full-time Dunedin starter. I remember liking the arm when we got him for Eckstein. Maybe some of the pieces are starting to fit with him.

Elsewhere, what to do about Angel Hechevarria? Send him to Lansing and promote Goins or Jackson? Let him muscle through it? The past month's been ugly.

Finally, nice to see Wojciechowski put up a strong debut. After seeing Jenkins wait to sign last summer, I'm glad to see a similar talent get into the system fast.

If you look at last year's innings pitched totals of the current rotation, it seems unlikely that Marcum, Romero, Cecil and Morrow are going to be able to stay in the rotation for the entire year.  At some point someone else is going to have to make a few starts.  Maybe Richmond is the kind of guy who could possibly make a few starts so that previously injured arms or arms that have not withstood that kind of workload will not be overly taxed especially in a rebuilding year.

I dont think Richmond replaces anyone. As you said he has moved down the depth chart. He is a good guy to have as a 7th or 8th starter though. You never know what could happen the second half of this year a couple guys get hurt and he may be needed.

I don't know if this has been mentioned yet but it's worth repeating if it has been.  Pitchers Trystan Magnuson and Henderson Alvarez have been selected for this year's Futures Game in Anaheim.  Congratulations to them and to the Dunedin Blue Jays for clinching a playoff spot.  It's the minor league answer to 1985 when the Jays clinched the AL East against the Yankees.  I'm sure Mick has fond memories!  :D

A couple of afternoon games.  Dunedin only had 2 hits but one of them was a 2 run HR by Pastornicky and Joel Carreno pitched a fine game in a 2-0 win.  NH won 9-4 as Loewen had a 3 run triple and 3 run HR in the first 2 innings.  Loewen went hitless after completing the hard part of a cycle.   Tim Collins had an off day striking out only 2 of the 3 batters he faced.

The plan for Scott Richmond is for him to make two starts in AA before heading to AAA.

The GCL Jays played this morning.  The pitching was out to lunch, but there was some encouraging batting performances (Crouse with two triples, Hawkins and Marisnick with two base knocks and a walk each).  Marisnik had two outfield assists, as well.
