Hot summer days and Nooner’s weren’t enough for the Vancouver Canadians, who lost 7-5 Friday to the Spokane Indians at Nat Bailey Stadium.
This contest was an exciting 10-inning game that saw Tucker Toman’s homer tie it at 5-5 with two outs in the bottom of the ninth before the Indians scored twice in the tenth to take it 7-5.
Alexis Hernandez hit a two-run homer to make it 2-0 in the bottom of the first to give Vancouver the early lead in this one before Spokane’s three runs in the fifth and singles in the sixth and seventh made it 5-2.
Eric Snow’s sacrifice fly added a run for the Canadians in the eighth to make it 5-4 before Toman’s dramatic homer in the ninth.
Landen Maroudis pitched for Vancouver in this one, throwing four scoreless innings before the three runs allowed in the fifth, along with a walk, a balk, and three hits.
The series continues tonight at the Nat. Silvano Hechavarria, the Blue Jays' number 17prospect, goes against Bryson Hammer. First pitch is at 5:05 pm PDT.
New Hampshire Fisher Cats
The New Hampshire Fisher Cats split their doubleheader with the Hartford Yard Goats on Friday. With the nightcap win, the Fisher Cats broke an eight-game losing skid.
New Hampshire lost 9-8 in game one with Gage Stanifer pitching three innings and giving up seven earned runs.
New Hampshire did actually claw their way back and take an 8- 7 lead into the ninth before Hartford scored two to win 9-8.
Game Two was a dominant outing for Austin Cates, who struck out 10 and went 5-2/3 innings.
Carter Cunningham had a solo shot, as did Jr Freethy, and Dub Gleed broke a 2-2 deadlock in the seventh inning in Game Two with a solo home run.
The Fisher and Somerset Patriots play again today, starting at 6:10 PM ET. Danny Thompson Jr. (2-3, 3.46 ERA) will start for the Fisher Cats.
Dunedin Blue Jays
The Dunedin Blue Jays' five-run eighth inning proved to be the difference in their win over the St. Lucie Mets.
Blaine Bullard’s RBI single put the D Jays on the board and kickstarted Dunedin’s offence. He finished 1-for-3 with an RBI and a walk.
Jake Bennett went 1-for-2 and walked twice. He had 2 RBI with his two-run double in the 8th for his first professional hit.
Carson Messina threw 4.2 innings, striking out seven while allowing four hits and a walk.
Dunedin and St. Lucie play today at 6:30 pm ET. Denis Samudio will start for Dunedin (1-1, 4.08 ERA) while a St. Lucie starter has not been announced.
Buffalo Bisons
Buffalo couldn’t capitalize with runners in scoring position in their 7-2 loss to the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs on Friday.
The Herd left seven on base with three in scoring position. Buffalo did score first in this one and got as close as 3-2 in the fifth.
Buffalo and Lehigh Valley play again today at 6:35 pm ET. Simeon Woods Richardson gets the start for Buffalo (1-7, 6.40 ERA).
