With the 51s resting, New Hampshire and the GCL Blue Jays provided the only offence on the evening. The Fisher Cats won by a run while the GCL Blue Jays posted the only victory. Meanwhile, Lansing, Dunedin and Auburn were each held to only four hits in their losses. However, there were a highly anticipated debuts from a rehabbing player and a highly publicized prospect, one of which certainly surpassed expectations.

Reading 5 @ New Hampshire 6 - Boxscore
Zach Stewart started for the Fisher Cats and surrendered all 5 runs over 7 innings. He struck out two batters and walked three, while allowing 7 hits. He retired 11 of 17 batters on balls in play with groundouts and, with the victory, improved to 6-2 with a 4.54 ERA. He turned the ball over to the usual suspects, as Danny Farquhar pitched a scoreless eighth before Tim Collins picked up his seventh save while walking one.
It was a team effort at the plate with no standout individual performances. The leader in hits was Eric Thames, who went 3-for-5 with a triple, but he didn’t score a run or add an RBI. Dan Perales and Shawn Bowman each went 1-for-5 with a double, with only Bowman adding an RBI. Half of the runs involved Darin Mastroianni, who was 1-for-3 with a solo homer, 2 RBI and 2 runs. Jonathan Jaspe also hit a solo homer, while Adam Loewen and Jonathan Diaz were each 1-for-4 with a run. Finally, saving the most anticipated for last, Adeiny Hechevarria debuted for New Hampshire, batting ninth. He went 1-for-2 with a triple and 2 walks in a very successful introduction to Double-A.
Dunedin 0 @ Clearwater 4 – Boxscore
Henderson Alvarez didn’t have his best start yesterday, going 4 innings and allowing four runs. Alvarez surrendered four hits and two walks, while striking out five. Ross Buckwalter, Chad Beck, Boomer Potts and Matt Daly each went 1 inning and held Clearwater scoreless. Beck’s inning was the best, as he struck out all three batters. Potts struggled, allowing a hit and walking two batters.
There was little to write about concerning the Dunedin offence. The D-Jays were held to four hits during the game, with Brad McElroy’s double being the only extra-base knock. Tyler Pastornicky, Justin McClanahan and Jon Talley each had a single, providing Dunedin’s other hits. Pastornicky, Mark Sobolewski and Michael McDade each had 3 strikeouts. Talley earned a base on balls, as did Wellinton Ramirez and Brian Van Kirk.
Lansing 0 @ Bowling Green 2 – Boxscore
Four hits was the name of the game last night, as Lansing could only manage four singles. Kenny Wilson, Ryan Goins, Ryan Schimpf and Kevin Nolan were the magicians at the plate who managed to get a base knock. Nolan also drew one of the team’s three walks, making him a star at the plate for the Lugnuts. Justin Jackson, playing at 3B, and Yan Gomes drew the other two walks. Balbino Fuenmayor was 0-for-3 with 3 strikeouts.
Dave Sever started and gave up a pair of runs over 6 innings. Sever struck out five and surrendered two walks and three hits. Aaron Loup relieved him and struck out three over 2 innings. And that’s that.
Auburn 1 @ Williamsport 4 – Boxscore
Like their bretheren in Dunedin, the Doubledays were held to four hits in yesterday’s game. Yeico Aponte, Matt Johnson, Marcus Knecht and Carlos Perez had the hits, with Knecht knocking a double for Auburn’s only extra-base rap. Johnson scored the run when he was driven home by Aponte. Pinch-hitter Joseph Bowen drew the team’s only walk, while Leon Durham and Gustavo Pierre were 0-for-8 with 5 strikeouts. Johnson and Pierre each made fielding errors.
Daniel Webb started and surrendered three runs in 5.2 innings. He walked one, struck out four and allowed 6 hits. He retired 9 of 11 batters on balls in play on groundouts. Travis Garrett pitched 1.1 scoreless innings with 3 groundouts and a strikeout. Drew Permision gave up three hits and an earned run in his relief inning.s
GCL Blue Jays 8 @ GCL Pirates 1 – Boxscore
Tyler Powell started for the GCL Blue Jays and put forth a fine effort. Powell went 5 innings and struck out three batters without walking a batter. He didn’t allow a run and only surrendered one hit. Drew Elliott surrendered a run on three hits over 1.1 innings, while striking out three. Alesone Escalante and Michael Kelly combined for 2.2 scoreless innings with four strikeouts to finish the game, as the pitching held the Pirates to 4 hits.
The GCL Blue Jays scored 8 runs during the first 4 innings on their way to a convincing victory. Hot-hitting Jake Marisnick was held to one double over 5 at-bats, scoring a run and adding an RBI. The less heralded Andy Fermin continued his hot hitting (and, if he’s anything like his father, his fine fielding) went 2-for-4 with a walk and a run. KC Hobson led the offence with a 3-for-5 night that included 3 RBI. Pierce Rankin, Edward Suero and Matt Abraham – the 7, 8 and 9 hitters – each had 2 hits in the game and combined for 5 runs scored. Bryson Namba went 1-for-5, but most eyes were on leadoff hitter Travis Snider who went 1-for-3 with a sacrifice fly before he was substituted.
