Some mighty nice days on the farm as two stud pitchers started and won while a number of top prospects (and former top prospects) swung the big bats.
Las Vegas 5 Sacramento 2
J.P. Arencibia and Brad Emaus led the way for the 51s. Arencibia doubled twice and drove in a run while Emaus launched his sixth homer of his AAA career.
Robert Ray started and won for Las Vegas going five innings and allowing a run on four hits and four walks against three strikeouts. This was clearly Ray's best performance since throwing a shutout on May 9th. Three relievers combined to finish things off with Jeremy Accardo picking up his 21st save.
New Hampshire 10 Trenton 4
David Cooper and Darin Mastroianni each had two hits and two RBI for the Fisher Cats on Sunday. Mastroianni's day was the most impressive, though as he scored twice, tripled, walked and stole a base. Adam Loewen singled and walked twice while Adeiny Hechavarria had a hit, an RBI and scored a pair. And Eric Thames drove in his team leading 83rd run of the year. Nice day, all around.
The good times continued on the mound as Kyle Drabek picked up the win in going six and allowing a run on three hits and a walk while striking out three. Tryston Magnuson was roughed up in his two innings, allowing three runs.
Dunedin 10 Charlotte 4
Same score in Hi-A. The Wallace-Gose trade is paying off immediate dividends- what is it about AA deals that all seem to turn golden right away?- as Anthony Gose homered as part of a 3-for-5 day at the plate. Mark Sobolewski had an identical day while Mike McDade fell a hit short in making it a trifecta. McDade's homer was his 19th. Also, Ryan McClanahan homered and drove in four as part of a two-hit day. Again, nice game all around.
Henderson Alvarez was a bit of a mixed bag on Sunday but was certainly good enough for the win. Alvarez went six and allowed four runs on six hits but didn't walk anyone while striking out three. Evan Crawford went the final three for the save.
Lansing 8 Bowling Green 10
Kevin Ahrens continues to swing a hot bat as he went 2-for-2 with 2 HRs, two walks, two RBI, and four runs. Jake Marisnick made his Lo-A debut and found it two his liking going 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI. Sean Ochinko continued his nice season with two doubles while Balbino Fuenmayor hit his 8th HR but predictably struck out twice.
Egan Smith started and got smacked around to the tune of eight runs on six hits and three walks over three innings.
State College 7 Auburn 6
The Doubledays led this one 6-0 heading into the 8th but a five-spot followed by single runs in the 9th and 10th sent them to defeat. Matthew Nuzzo swung the hottest bat in going 3-for-5 with a double and a triple while Stephen McQuail hit his third homer of the year.
Daniel Webb started and had one of his best professional starts in going five and allowing no runs on four hits and three walks while striking out six but a quartet of relievers conspired to rob him of his first career victory.
DSL Blue Jays 3 DSL Angels 1
The DSL Jays won this one despite not driving in a single run thanks in large part to five Angels errors. The best day at the plate belonged to Sonny Javier who was 1-for-3 with two walks.
Two pitchers split the duties for the Jays as Julio Carmona started and went 4.1 allowing three hits and four walks while striking out four. Victor German went the rest of the way giving up the sole run on five hits and a walk with one strikeout.
