Mike McDade made us all proud at the plate batting in 5 with 3 hits, 2 HRs and a double.  That helped lead the farm boys to a scoring advantage of 32-15 in Saturday’s contests, winning 3 of 4.

Las Vegas 5  Reno 4

The 51s waited until the ninth inning to ice a win for reliever Winston Abreu (2.0 IP, 5Ks) on a walk off single by Jason Lane (1 for 4, RBI K).  Starter Brett Cecil continued to build his strength on the mound with 6.0 IP, allowing 4 runs on 7 hits while striking out an impressive 7 Ace’s on the evening.  Adam Loewen (2 for 3, 2B, BB, K) suffered his 6th error (fielding).

Ramon Vasquez (1 for 4, RBI), Chris Woodward (1 for 4, RBI), and Ryan Shealy (2 for 4, 2B, RBI, 2Ks) added and RBI each.  Manny Mayorson (3 for 4) led the 51s in hits with three.

New Hampshire 14  Erie 1

Erie turned out 4,986 fans to watch a drubbing of the hometown boys by the visiting Fisher Cats.  Winning pitcher Chad Beck (6-2) started and completed 6.0 IP, allowing Erie’s only run on 5 hits and striking out 3.  Relievers Matt Daly, B.J LaMura and Chris Everts each threw 1.0 IP and shut out Erie in the last three innings.  Moises Sierra (0 for 5, K) committed a fielding error, his third of the year.

Man Mountain Mike McDade (3 for 5, 3R, 2B, 2HR, 3 RBIs) wrote the hitting story for the night on the farm with two round trippers, one each in the 4th  and 6th innings.  Travis d’Arnaud (2 for 4, 2 RBIs, K) and Danny Perales (2 for 4, HR, 2 RBIs) each hit in a pair.  Adeiny Hechavarria (3 for 6, 2B, RBI, K) put up 3 hits on the evening and hit one in as did Ricardo Nanita (3 for 5, 2B, HR) who hit a solo blast in the 5th inning.  Callix Crabbe (2 for 4, HR, RBI, K), who owns the best name in baseball, slammed a 2 out round tripper in the 5th inning as well.

Dunedin  (no game – All Star break)

Lansing 8  Dayton 4

Lansing traveled south to Dayton and gave them a hitting lesson, but not a fielding lesson.  Jesse Litsch, on his rehab assignment in the Midwest League gave up 3 runs (2 earned) on 3 hits, a BB and 3 Ks.  Litsch added in a throwing error in the 3rd and Carlos Perez (2 for 3, 3BB) threw in a throwing error as well.    Winning pitcher Marcus Waldon (2-2) came on in the 3rd, pitching 4 IP and allowing 1 run on 1 hit.

Lansing’s eight runs came in most part from Kevin Nolan (2 for 4, BB, 3 RBIs) and Michael Crouse (2 for 2, 2B, 3 RBIs) with three RBIs each.   Marcus Knecht (0 for4, RBI, 2 Ks) and Bryson Namba (1 fo 3, RBI, 2BB, K) each kicked in a run batted in. Other hit came from Jake Marisnick (1 for 6) and Kevin Hobson(1 for 5, K) contributed a single each while Lance Durham (1 for 3, 2B, 2 BB) added a double.

Vancouver 5  Yakima 6

On the second night of the Northwest League season, all teams fell to or rose to .500 ball.  All teams are 1 and 1 on the season.    A substantial crowd numbering 3,165 came out to see the hometown Canadians take their first loss in extra innings despite putting up 11 hits.  Starting pitcher Jessie Hernandez threw 5.0 IP with 3R, 6H and 5Ks.  Travis Garret came on in the 12th with the score knotted at 5 and gave up the winning run on 2 hits and suffered the loss.  Stephen McQuail (2 for 6, 3Ks) booted his first error in the 7th.

Shortstop Shane Opitz (3 for 6, 2B, K) let the hit parade for the Canadians, but did not put up any RBIs.  Jonathan Jones (1 for 6, 2B,RBI, 2Ks), Balbino Fuenmayor (2 for 6, 2 2B, RBI, K), Randy Schwartz (0 for 5, RBI, K), Pierce Rankin (1 for 4, RBI, 2 BB, K) produced runs for Vancouver. Eli Bolke (1 for 4, 2B, BB, K)  added a double and Jonathan Berti (1 for 2, BB) added a single.
