Today is the day that minor league rosters get announced. As I noted last week the Jays have locked down their process for releasing their minor league rosters after complaints from their affiliates. However all teams are headed to their respective cities and the rosters will get announced today. I will get a copy of all rosters but not until the teams have announced. I think the Jays have also asked their players not to tweet about their destinations as I have seen only a couple of definite roster tweets, namely Casey Lawrence headed to New Hampshire and Chase De Jong to Lansing.

The TV broadcast from Montreal also mentioned that Jon Berti is headed back to New Hampshire. None of these moves are surprises. Use this thread to post updates as they come in and I will post full rosters when I get them.

Jesse is also running his first "Around The Nest" podcast at 4:00 PM today as well.  I think he is planning to talk about the rosters of each affiliate.

Hitters are almost as expected, no Jake Fox but Brad Glenn is back in AAA. AJ Jimenez is on the DL.

No sign of Oramas, probably in waiver limbo. No Matt West among the relievers. There are 27 players on the roster.

The roster has to get down to 25 by opening day, phantom DL probably on the way for a couple of relievers.

Lansing's roster is missing several hot shot pitching prospects. The starters look like Chase De Jong, Starlyn Suriel, Shane Dawson, Chase Mallard and perhaps Justin Shafer. No Smoral, Borucki (who may be injured), Smith, Huffman or Greene.

On the hitting side they will have Richard Urena, Dan Jansen, DJ Davis, Rowdy Tellez and Josh Almonte.

It looks like Anthony Alford and Jairo Labourt will be in Dunedin.

Seems to be a lot of infielders for AA then. Burns, Berti, Opitz, Lopes, Smith Jr., Schimpf, and Nolan could all be in AA. I am not sure where they all fit.

Thought I read that Borucki had elbow surgery recently...don't think it was another TJ...hopefully more like cleanup (elbow chips) but haven't seen anything confirmed yet.

Has Lansing's roster been released yet? I can't seem to find it anywhere....

Anthony Alford told me on Twitter he was going to Lansing on the weekend.

The Fisher Cats Roster is released, seems quite old, lots of the AAA relievers got stored in AA, rather than be released.

80% of the New Hampshire roster is the same as the one that ended 2014. The notable additions are Jake Fox and Dwight Smith. Smith seems to be back to being an outfielder, he is listed as that on the roster. The starters are the same as 2014 but the bullpen does have some new free agent names.

much appreciated Gerry, I'm excited to follow our minor leagues closely this year and your posts are invaluable.

is it just me, or do we seem to have a LOT of veteran pitching even as low as A ball?  or is that typical and I just haven't flagged it before?  Is this a good thing or a bad thing?

Does anyone know where Michael Crouse is this season? Other than maybe some older 2014 draft picks (Dusty Isaacs, Cliff Brantley), he is the biggest surprise to not be on a roster to me.
Gerry - Tuesday, April 07 2015 @ 10:55 AM EDT (#299148) #
Michael Crouse became a free agent after last season and has signed with an independent baseball team.

The Jays pitching depth of prospects in the upper minors is thin, in part due to Norris, Castro and Osuna being on the big club. The Jays even have two free agent starters pitching for Dunedin, a club that usually only features home grown talent. I will have more to say about this in a post, hopefully later today.

Brief update on Oramas:  the Jays have released him.  I guess he didn't impress much in spring training, and/or he got caught in the roster squeeze at Buffalo.

I'm a little surprised to see Francis and Jenkins in the Buffalo rotation.   The Jays would have to be pretty desperate to use either in the Toronto rotation.  I would have to think that Estrada and Redmond, at least, would be ahead of Jenkins and Francis in the starting-pitcher depth chart.  Both should probably be focusing on the relief role to maximize their utility to the Jays, unless the team saw some starting-pitcher potential in them in spring training that wasn't apparent to most of us.

Per twitter. Oramas released because of his desire to play in the Mexican League.

I share your surprise China, and felt that both profiled as relievers.  The org had certainly acted as if they were viewed as relievers going forward, and while I could see either playing a role from the pen, I can't see either sticking as a starter.  This smacks of a lack of starting depth in the upper minors.  Hopefully Santana can push Jenkins back to the pen when (if?) he gets healthy.  Francis has made his money already, but Jenkins needs to be a middle reliever IMO.
China fan - Tuesday, April 07 2015 @ 06:40 PM EDT (#299177) #
It's pure speculation on my part, but one guess on Jenkins is that they see him as a long man in the bullpen (like his famous six-inning stint in the marathon extra-innings game last year) so they want him to build up his arm strength for that role.  Also, I recall that they wanted him to introduce a new pitch in his repertoire this spring (can't remember which pitch) -- so maybe the starter role would give him more innings to refine the new pitch.   But in the long run, he seems most likely to return to the bullpen, unless he astounds us by improving as a starter.

Dayan Viciedo declared free agency when he didn't make the cut.

It make sense to have some starters on the 40 man roster in Buffalo. In a month it might be hard to throw a reliever in the rotation without totally screwing up the pen since you might only get 3 innings of the starter. Also, you might need an extra starter following a double header down the road.

Is there a point in limiting Jenkins' innings?

bpoz - Tuesday, April 07 2015 @ 07:18 PM EDT (#299181) #
I am very happy that Jenkins is a starter in Buffalo. He can work on his cutter as requested by the Jays and build up his arm strength.
Estrada could be ahead of him. Then You have T Cole & M Boyd in AA.
So what? About 9 starters to get through the season?

Doubront is on the DL. Does he starts if healthy?
