Two wins at the top of the system, and Pulaski piled it on in the Appy League. The Jays affiliates were 3-3 on the night.

Syracuse 9 Buffalo 5

Last-place Syracuse handled first-place Buffalo on the road.

The Key Inning: The top of the fourth; the SkyChiefs piled on our runs to take a 7-1 lead with a Gabe Gross double doing two runs of damage.
The Key Hits: Back-to-back homers by Guillermo Quiroz and Jorge Sequea, also in the fourth.
On The Mound: Jesus Sanchez started and went six innings, allowing four runs (two earned).

Box score
Game story from the Syracuse Post-Standard concentrates on a "highlight-reel" catch by minor league vet Anton French, who is blossoming in the Jays' system.

New Hampshire 3 Bowie 2

The Key Inning: The bottom of the ninth; a HBP (John Hattig), a wild pitch, a pinch-runner, a groundball, an intentional walk, and a game-winning two-out single by Paul Chiaffredo
The Key Hit: Justin Singleton's second-inning double. That hit scored John Hattig for the Fisher Cats' first run, and Maikel Jova also scored on a throwing error by Bowie RF Keith Reed.
On The Mound: Two very impressive performances. Chris Baker went six innings, allowing just three hits and striking out eight; Ryan Houston pitched three innings of shutout ball and got the win.

Box score
Game story from the Manchester Union-Leader calls the Fisher Cats "late inning drama boys". Heh.

Clearwater 5 Dunedin 3

The Key Inning: The top of the second, when the Phillies put all five runs across off Justin James.
The Key Hits: Two doubles (and a walk) by Raul Tablado, who scored all three D-Jays runs.
On The Mound: A forgettable start by Justin James, but some good relief work by Tracy Thorpe, striking out three and retiring five of the six batters he faced.

Box score

Evil Charleston 7 Good Charleston 6

The Key Inning: The bottom of the seventh, when Evil Charleston broke a 2-1 game open with five runs, all off Joaquin Canizal. Evil Charleston scored seven runs in the game despite having no extra-base hits and only seven singles.
The Key Hit: A furious comeback by the Alley Cats in the top of the eighth fell just short, as they put five runs across. Eric Arnold's three-run double was the key blow in the fightback.
On The Mound: A pretty good start by Kurt Isenberg was wasted. Isenberg gave up two singles and three walks in 5.2 innings, striking out five.

Box score
Game story from the Charleston Gazette.

Hudson Valley 4 Auburn 3

The Key Inning: The top of the ninth. Down 4-2 going in against HV closer Aaron Walker, the Doubledays quickly found themselves down to their final out when Chip Cannon struck out and David Corrente grounded out. But Aaron Mathews managed to work a walk; and when Ryan Bitter relieved Walker, Ryan Klosterman ripped a double to center to close the gap to 4-3 and put the tying run in scoring position. Klosterman then went one better and stole third base. Curtis Thigpen drew a walk, but Eric Nielsen struck out to end the game.
The Key Hit: Jason Armstrong's RBI double in the top of the second; he eventually scored as well.
On The Mound: Casey Janssen gave up 10 hits and four runs in five innings, but Chris Neylan followed up with three innings of no-hit ball. Nice work!

Pulaski 15 Bluefield 0

The Key Inning: The top of the second. The P-Jays knocked Bluefield starter Ryan Schwabe out of the game, and from there feasted on a tired and outclassed Bluefield bullpen on their way to 15 runs.
The Key Hit: There were 13 of them, plus 11 walks, and four Bluefueld errors and none more important than any other. Good offensive performances from Charles Anderson (double, 4 walks) Eugenio Velez (4 singles, walk) and especially Anthony Garibaldi, with two home runs.
On The Mound: A terrific start by Jordan Timm, who went seven strong shutout innings, walking two, striking out nine, and giving up just three hits. The P-Jays also got two hitless innings from Edward Rodriguez.

Box score
Game story from OurSportsCentral.
Bonus Story - from Monday... Derek Tate was Appy League Player Of The Week.

Three-Star Selection

3rd Star: Ryan Houston (three innings of shutout relief in a tie ballgame)
2nd Star: Jordan Timm (three hits and nine Ks in seven strong innings)
1st Star: Anthony Garibaldi (2-for-4 with two home runs and 3 RBI)

Evil Charleston 7 Good Charleston 6

Thank you for the 'good' vs. 'evil' simplification.

My head didn't almost-explode today.

It was nice to see Isenberg have a solid game... looks like he may have licked whatever problems were bugging him earlier in the season...

Jeepers, are the Pulaski Jays ever on a hot streak right now! Mind you they have a number of players on the team who have no right being in the Appy league... (Rodriguez, Thomas, Velez, Anderson, Hicks, Timm, Tressler, Cheng, Grant). Too bad the Jays can't ditch one of their short season teams for a second low-A team. It would probably serve them well the way they draft college players.

Graig Badger is definitely this year's Jayce Tingler... They both have cool names and take lots of walks (Badger has seven more walks than hits).
_JohnnyS99 - Thursday, August 05 2004 @ 11:02 AM EDT (#45478) #
Too Bad Graig Badger can't get a hit. TIngler wont last in AA ball, he should repeat Dudendin, his average is way to low for a promotion and his Slugging Percentage is terrible.
_Jordan - Thursday, August 05 2004 @ 11:10 AM EDT (#45479) #
Johnny, have you petted a puppy today?
_JohnnyS99 - Thursday, August 05 2004 @ 11:15 AM EDT (#45480) #
Nope, i just think Tingler is overhyped on da box, if he was hitting close to 300, i can get past his lack of power, but he is not hitting for average either.
_Nigel - Thursday, August 05 2004 @ 11:46 AM EDT (#45481) #
I was just looking at Ryan Roberts' stat line for the year. After a slow start in Dunedin he's now up to a respectable .281/.373/.385 in 135 AB's. However, he has one of the stranger stats I've seen (at least from a middle infielder). In 361 AB's at his two stops this year he's hit 17HR's and only 9 doubles and 1 triple. He hasn't hit a double at all in Dunedin. I'm sure its partly statistical fluke but does it suggest something else? Maybe he's slow as molassis - it would seem odd given he's a middle infielder. Any thoughts?
_Finn McCool - Thursday, August 05 2004 @ 12:33 PM EDT (#45482) #
Agreed Tingler is overhyped, just becuase draw alot of walks doesn't make you a prospect.
Craig B - Thursday, August 05 2004 @ 01:10 PM EDT (#45483) #
Tingler's having a pretty bad season; I would agree that a repeat at Dunedin would be helpful for him. Like a lot of prospects, Tingler's more of a prospect for what he might be rather than what he is right now. But he needs to kick his career into high gear to get there.
Mike Green - Thursday, August 05 2004 @ 02:57 PM EDT (#45484) #
With today's game shaping up as a thriller, is anyone up for some BBRadio? Syracuse, New Hampshire, Charleston (with Davis Romero pitching) and Auburn are all possibilities, so if 4 people show up, they all can contribute. I'll be here later on.
_Tassle - Thursday, August 05 2004 @ 05:18 PM EDT (#45485) #
When is Raul Tablado going to get the call to New Hampshire? The man is slugging over .600 in the FSL; He's clearly ready.
_Finn McCool - Thursday, August 05 2004 @ 08:31 PM EDT (#45486) #
Gustavo Chacin is at it again, for the second time in his last 5 starts Chacin is throwing a no hitter. This time it's through 5 innings.
_Scott - Thursday, August 05 2004 @ 08:48 PM EDT (#45487) #
Chacin strikes out the side in the sixth.
_Finn McCool - Thursday, August 05 2004 @ 08:49 PM EDT (#45488) #
Chacin strikes out the side in the 6th inning to keep his no hitter intacked. Fisher Cats lead 3-0
Mike Green - Thursday, August 05 2004 @ 08:54 PM EDT (#45489) #
Chacin's line after 6: 6IP, 0H, 1W, 6K and no outs recorded by OFs. Yummy.

Since two other people are working on this, I'll try the Charleston game where Davis Romero is throwing a beaut. Incidentally, Dunedin behind Jason Arnold leads 5-1 after 6 innings.

Good Charleston at Evil Charleston bottom of 7:

Game tied at 1.

After a stirring rendition of "Take Me Out to the Ballgame", Good Charleston's Matt Dalton is on to face the 7th, 8th and 9th batters of Evil Charleston's lineup. As he is about to throw his first pitch, the network connection fails. I'll try Syracuse.
_Scott - Thursday, August 05 2004 @ 09:06 PM EDT (#45491) #
Chacin makes it through the 7th with no-hitter intact.
_Finn McCool - Thursday, August 05 2004 @ 09:11 PM EDT (#45492) #
Chacin still rolling after 7 innings. It seems doubtfull that Chacin will go 9 innings, his pitch count is up into the 90's and Mike Basso has already said when Chacin gets to his pitch count he's coming out no hitter or not.
Mike Green - Thursday, August 05 2004 @ 09:12 PM EDT (#45493) #
Ottawa at Syracuse bottom of 7:

Game tied at 7, after Syracuse had a 7-2 lead after 4.

Anton French hits a ground rule double over Tim Raines Jr.'s head in center. Russ Adams sacrificies French over to third. Gabe Gross intentionally walked (he's reached base all 4 of his plate appearances). Glenn Williams hits a long sac fly to score French on a nice play by Chad Mottola in right field. This is Williams' last game before the Olympics. Julius Matos strikes out swinging.

8-7 Syracuse after 7 innings.
Mike Green - Thursday, August 05 2004 @ 09:20 PM EDT (#45494) #
Top of 8 AAA:

Aquilino Lopez pitching for Syracuse. Edwards Guzman lines a double to left-center on a 2-0 pitch. Bob File warming. Geronimo Gil runs the count to 3-2 and grounds out to Glenn Williams at third. Marty Pevey comes to the mound and pulls Lopez for File. The server disconnects. There is no Ottawa broadcast, so I'm in tough.
_Finn McCool - Thursday, August 05 2004 @ 09:22 PM EDT (#45495) #
Travis Thompson is coming on to start the 8th inning. Note, this is the same scenario from the last time Chacin had 7 no hit innings.Thompson came on and did keep the no hitter intacked through the 8th before giving up a lead off single to start the 9th, the only hit the Fisher Cats gave up in the game.
Mike Green - Thursday, August 05 2004 @ 09:23 PM EDT (#45496) #
Top of 8 AAA cont'd:

Pedro Swann grounds out to second, but the runner who somehow moved to third (wild pitch/passed ball?) scores. A line out to second ends the inning.

8-8 after 7 and 1/2 innings.
_Finn McCool - Thursday, August 05 2004 @ 09:24 PM EDT (#45497) #
Thompson can't even get through one batter today. Lead off single to start the 8th.
Mike Green - Thursday, August 05 2004 @ 09:30 PM EDT (#45498) #
Bottom of 8 AAA:

Mike DiFelice pitching for Ottawa.

Howie Clark grounds out to short on a 1-2 pitch. Shawn Fagan lines a single to right on the first pitch. Guillermo Quiroz (1-3 including a solo homer and playing good defence according to the announcers) is up when the server crashes again, and I can't reconnect. Sigh.
_Finn McCool - Thursday, August 05 2004 @ 09:31 PM EDT (#45499) #
It's like night and day Thompson comes on gets one out and loads the bases and is pulled. Jordan DeJong comes on to try and save the game.
_Finn McCool - Thursday, August 05 2004 @ 09:35 PM EDT (#45500) #
Jordan DeJong throws one pitch, the hitter grounds into a double play and the inning is over. Now that's how you pitch!
Mike Green - Thursday, August 05 2004 @ 09:49 PM EDT (#45501) #
I successfully reconnected to the Syracuse broadcast. It's still the bottom of the eighth and Howie Clark comes up for the 2nd time in the inning. The count goes to 3-2 and the server craps out again. Syracuse will, in any event, be going to the top of the ninth with a good lead.
_Finn McCool - Thursday, August 05 2004 @ 09:54 PM EDT (#45502) #
Jordan DeJong saves the game, giving up just a double with two out in the 9th inning.

Has anybody else noticed how much more reliable Jordan DeJong is now he is the closer rather than just a middle reliever. Another thing is DeJong feels like he's been around for a while but he was a 2002 draft, take by the jays in the 18 round.
Mike Green - Thursday, August 05 2004 @ 09:57 PM EDT (#45503) #
Top of 9 AAA:

13-8 Syracuse. File still pitching.

Tim Raines Jr. grounds out to pitcher. Mike Fontenot strikes out looking. Eddie Garabito up. File throws behind him (there's been a lot of lip between the two dugouts). The dugouts are warned Ottawa acting manager Dave Cash (now there's a blast from the past) comes out to talk to the umpire. Ottawa retaliates by ensuring that the internet connection is severed once again.

Ottawa Lynx. Bosh, I say. Ottawa Bureaucrats.

I'm outta here.

Jason Arnold pitched a couple innings in Dunedin tonight.
_JohnnyS99 - Thursday, August 05 2004 @ 11:20 PM EDT (#45507) #
yep, maybe another appearance in Dunedin, then back to Syracuse. After missing most of the season, maybe Jason Arnold should pitch in the Arizona Fall league, I dont believe he has played winter ball yet.
_Anthony - Friday, August 06 2004 @ 01:11 AM EDT (#45508) #
Medina was moved to Charleston to make room for Arnold. Was this a paper move or will they bring someone else up when Arnold goes back up to Syracuse? Maybe Snavely?

Another great outing in AAA for File. Now has a 0.36 ERA and 0.76 WHIP in 25+IP in AAA.

Actually, maybe winter ball would be a good idea; it would give Arnold more opportunities than the AFL which has a very short season.

Gustavo Chacin, WOW. 7 0 0 0 2 7. Totally dominant now. SportsNetwork.com's Daily Dugout Chatter today led with Chacin.
