Some Arizona Fall League notes and other happenings on the farm.

Rowdy Tellez belted his fourth home run of the season in the AFL earlier this week. (Image from MiLB.com)

This past Wednesday, MLB.TV showed a game between the Salt River Rafters and the Peoria Javelinas in Arizona Fall League action. There are seven Jays prospects playing for the Salt River Rafters and six of them saw action in this game.  Rowdy Tellez clubbed a two-run home run off Seattle's James Paxton in a lefty-on-lefty match-up, Roemon Fields got to showcase his speed with a triple and Emilio Guerrero also scored a run after doubling in four trips to the plate. Tellez also drew a walk against Paxton as part of a 1-for-4 night. Fields had a single and two walks and stole a base. Paxton appeared to have him picked off but Fields kept running and made it to second base.

On the mound, Jeremy Gabryszwski got the start and took the loss. He wasn’t hit especially hard in the first inning but he coughed up a pair of runs on four hits, three I would say were of the bloop variety. He gave up three runs on seven hits with no walks over four innings while whiffing a pair. All seven of his outs in play were in the air. He topped out at 91 miles per hour. Brady Dragmire dominated over two shutout frames of one-hit ball with four strikeouts and two groundouts and Justin Shafer struck out one in a scoreless ninth.

For more learned observations on the Salt River Seven, Florida-based scout Jeff Moore via Sportsnet turned in his thoughts on how each of them are doing. There is also video of a Chad Girodo strikeout from the Fall Stars Game.

It's great to see Tellez performing well.  The Jays have often used the AFL to give give key position prospects ABs, and relief 'prospects' innings.  I really do think this bodes well for Girodo - Aaron Loup followed this path a few years back with much success.  With Cecil in the role of relief ace, we could use a true LOOGY.

I also like the chances of last years AFL relief 'prospect' - Blake McFarland - getting the Bo Schultz / Ryan Tepera treatment in 2016.

Nice read #2 JB.

I finally get a scouting report on Brady Dragmire. I must have missed the previous ones.

Nice articles by Rob Fai as well.

Dragmire looked good in his one inning tonight.....94 with movement. He pitched very well last Wednesday as well. He could be a sleeper.

Dalton Pompey headed south for some winter ball. He played about a week, hit around 200 and then disappeared. He showed up in Toronto today for the Santa Clause parade. I am not sure why he left winter ball, was it an injury or was it for lack of results? Winter ball teams play a short season and look for fast results.

could be but could also be that he is involved in trade talks and jays don't want to take a chance on an injury.
