After yesterday’s debacle some good news from down on the farm. The affiliates were 3-1 highlighted by a come from behind victory down in High A.

Buffalo Bisons

Two games to speak of. Buffalo split their doubleheader. Rowdy Tellez homered and doubled in the first game and was then held hitless in the second. Tellez has had a slow start to the year despite his excellent camp. John Stilson pitched two clean innings in relief. Our big club bullpen needs a shot in the arm. Perhaps Stilson is the guy to do that. Or, perhaps that person is Mike Bolsinger, who pitched five shutout innings and struck out six.

Dunedin Blue Jays

Max Pentecost hit his fifth homerun of the year as the Dunedin squad scored five in the ninth to come all the way back to win. Da Box favourite Danny Jansen also homered and drive in the go ahead run.

Lansing Lugnuts

Andy Ravel went seven innings allowing just one run on four hits. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. had two hits and continues to hit well over .300. Bradley Jones too continues to rake. Jones had two hits as well. Jones also featured at second base as Bo Bichette got the night off.

Three Stars

3. Mike Bolsinger

2. Danny Jansen

1. Andy Ravel

sam I think Bo's been playing largely at short. And doesn't Ravel have a breaking pitch he calls 'Bolero'?

There is now an open spot on 40 man if another pitcher needs to be added.

perhaps the above should have been on the Cardinals thread even though that series is over. How it may apply here is the emerging question as to when there may be a chain reaction of catching promotions within the system..... probably not yet but possibly sooner than mid June when these things usually happen. Jansen, in particular, may need more of a challenge.

Max Pentecost is catching tonight and is 3-for-3 with a home run in Fort Myers. Cavan Biggio with his first Dunedin homer too.

SS alert but what's with Vicuna hitting so well as a injury call-up for Dunedin. Will the balloon burst or will he keep hitting and if he keeps hitting do they keep him in Dunedin?

Vlad Jr. was removed from the game in the 3rd inning tonight after being thrown out at the plate.  I hope he is all right.

Vicuna is showing that he might be ready for full season ball. Dunedin is probably a stretch but Landing might be possible. SS in Landing is sort of occupied right now. Nice problem to have. On the plus side, I probably get to see him in Vancouver!

K Vicuna has taken me by surprise.

John Lott says Guerrero has a knee injury, no reports on severity.

Guererro hurt his knee in a rundown between third and home. It sounds initially like it is not serious but I guess there will be a little angst until we know for sure. I will listen to the Lansing broadcast tonight in case anything is said.

do we know whether he banged it or twisted it?
PeterG - Saturday, April 29 2017 @ 06:04 PM EDT (#341349) #
Don't know. If he is not placed on the 7 day DL before tonight's game, that will be a good sign.

John Lott reports its a tweak and "not considered worrisome".

Lansing manager says the same. That's probably where Lott picked it up. Woodman has homered in the 1st.

Jake Thomas, a real under the radar prospect, leads minor league baseball in OBP.

I wondered about Jansen's ball-in-play distribution in light of the fact that he's hitting .400 with just a couple of homers and doubles.  It looks like this (by my count- missing 1 ball in play); 35 ground balls, 11 fly balls to the outfield, 2 pop-ups and 21 line drives.  You have to like the line-drive rate, but he has had quite a few infield hits.

Sanchez done after one inning.

Thomas is raking, but he'll be 24 in July and is repeating in Lansing this year ... I know the org doesn't usually promote guys this early, but he is one of a number of  players that could use a challenge.

The hitters are pretty clearly outperforming the pitchers in the minors right now ... hopefully this helps put to bed the idea that the Jays can't develop hitters ....

And my post was supposed to be in the other thread...
