A new headline-writing contest -- with a twist on the last one, introduced by Mike D.

Same "back page New York tabloid" rules -- if even the New York Post wouldn't run it, don't enter it here. But the twist: this is a headline that could or might appear after next week's All-Star Game. Some samples to get you started ...

  • Colon-oscopy: LAA Hurler Dominates
  • Duch of Hurl: A's Reliever Surprise MVP
  • Sheff's Cooking: Two Homers for Yank
  • Lo and Behold: Marlin Backstop Hero
  • Lee-Lee Leads NL to Victory
  • F-Lop: Key Error Dooms Senior Circuit

That particular scenario would surely inspire some NYP or NYDN hed writer to pen "WHAT THE HUCK?"

Headlines like this really aren't something I'm good at, but I've always wanted to try writing them. One of my proudest moments is correctly predicting the Edmonton Sun headline after Ross Rebagliati got busted in Nagano "Up In Smoke".

BAEZ PLURALIZES JASON, D-TRAIN RUNS OFF DOC

Danys Baez sends the NL home after he delivers a strikeout to Jason Bay to end the game, all before Roy Halladay outlasted Dontrelle Willis who lasted 1/3 of the first inning. D-Train at least did it with the bat in a surprising move when LaRussa let the Florida pitcher bat for himself, cashing in 2 runs off Halladay.
