The first person who was primarily known for his work in Toronto has been elected. Congrats to Pat Gillick.

The current veteran's committee voting was as follows (12 out of 16 votes needed to be elected)...
Pat Gillick (13 votes, 81.25%); Marvin Miller (11 votes, 68.75%); Dave Concepcion (8 votes, 50%); Ted Simmons, Vida Blue, Steve Garvey, Ron Guidry, Tommy John, Billy Martin, Al Oliver, Rusty Staub and George Steinbrenner each received less than eight votes.

Yup, Marvin Miller was just 1 vote shy of getting in. A bit surprised that Concepcion got as much support as he did, and that Steinbrenner got as little as he did.

With any luck this years HOF class will be buried in Blue Jays with Alomar getting in as well.

Congrats to Pat.

The black eye that is Marvin Miller's omission from Cooperstown continues. Marvin, they can't keep you out forever (or so I think).

The winner of the Ford C. Frick Award will be announced on Wednesday.  It's possible that Tom Cheek will also be honoured in Cooperstown this year.

What Thomas said

;

Congrats to Pat - highly deserved but a black eye over Miller, I can't think of anyone who has had a greater

impact over the last generation than Miller - if I were an elected player , i would boycott the hall until

Miller gets in

I was so disappointed when Pat Gillick left the Blue Jays, but realised he had reached all the goals he set for this team and needed a fresh start.   Little would I understand how much of or how long of a drought in ability would arise.   GMs existing between Gillick and Anthopolous weren't very good.   Too bad he had to leave.

If Robbie and Tom Cheek manage to join Pat I might have to make a road trip down to Cooperstown this year.

Charles Comiskey is in the Hall of Fame and Marvin Miller is not.  I guess that there is no place like Cooperstown to begin teaching your children about money, power and privilege.  Say it aint so.

Congratulations to Pat Gillick.

And the commercial potential of a bullshit origin story.

Come on Chuck, Spider-Man wasn't that bad of a movie.

Congrats to Pat also.

Not to steer the discussion away from Pat Gillick, I couldn't find an appropriate place to mention this.

A few weeks ago, DaveB posted:

So, thanks MikeG for mentioning Cuddles Marshall. A little bit of a search on a heretofore unknown guy with a funny nickname brought up connections with the Blue Jays, Vancouver baseball history, and some fond personal thoughts of my old friend and lifelong consummate newspaperman, Clancy Loranger. Clancy covered the Capilanos in 1953 for the Vancouver Province newspaper and "broke" the news of the former Yankee being signed by the Capilanos. Clancy's name was memorialized in the naming of Clancy Loranger Way, a small street running behind the right field foul line and first-base stands of Nat Bailey Stadium.

Clancy Loranger covered baseball in Vancouver for several decades until his retiring in 1983 with the Canadians. A deeply respected member of the BC Sports Hall of Fame and Vancouver Canadians Broadcast Hall of Fame, he passed away on December 4th, 2010. You can watch a video tribute of his life by the Vancouver Canadians here. He was 89.

I was going to say that you could take them to a Hitchens/Blair debate for much less than the cost of a trip to Cooperstown, but I figured that I'd be subtle...never a good idea when "armed response" is on the table.

I was surprised that Martin and Steinbrenner did not garner more support.
