Once again, it's one of my throw out a bunch of articles and see what sticks threads. Here's what various media outlets are talking about when they're talking about the Jays.

  1. Mark Zwolinksi of the Toronto Star looks at Jays pitching prospect Dustin McGowan.

  2. Cam Cole of the National Post does the same thing. Who is stealing ideas from whom?

  3. In the Sports Business News Jays President Paul Godfrey discusses how the steroid issue is going to "explode". Apparently roid rage isn't limited to those taking the substances.

  4. Batter's Box favorite Spencer Fordin gives his "Jays Spring Training Quick Hits". I'm surprised one of the five questions wasn't about Hinske's fielding. Maybe Fordin is optimistic as I am that it will not be a problem.

Anybody else find any Jays related stories?

Bob Elliot's got a nice piece about Gabe Gross and his experience with the U.S. Olympic team.

Griffin's column today is kind of interesting and not at all objectionable.

And Zwolinski continues to go a bit off the beaten path for an article. It's nice to see none of the old spring training cliche articles being dusted off.

Is Corey Thurman damaged goods? I had been curious as to why the Jays had left him off the roster, essentially to acquire Talley Haines in the Rule 5. Which at best seems a wash, but I expected Thurman to be a relatively productive pitcher the next few years. Then he signed a contract with Cincinnati a couple of weeks later, only to have Cincinnati void the contract last week???? Anybody have any info?

I believe he was damaged goods. Someone mentioned shoulder troubles?

Griffin's column today is a perfect example of what he's capable of: a well-written article about the people in baseball which leverages his long history of reporting on it.

It's the reason I still read him even after all the ignorant things he's said. The man's a good writer.

Cam Cole (seemingly the Post's go-to Jays columnist now) has two quality articles today from Dunedin, only one of which is freely available online. I don't think we've seen this kind of competition covering the Jays in a long time! And so far, it seems to be increasing the quality of coverage, IMO.
