Tonight the Jays are at home to the Boston Red Sox. As we all know, the crowd will be seeded with a larger than usual number of opposition fans. Therefore, it is an excellent night to bring out...

The Drum.

The Cheer Club will be in the upper half of section 518. We have a pretty good number of attendees for tonight, but we need everyone we can get, so if you have a spare nine dollar bill with no good use for it, come on out, meet up with us, and help us drown out those Boston fans and cheer on our beloved Toronto Blue Jays.

Kansas City was an excellent example for us yesterday afternoon, particularly in the ninth inning, where they didn't give up on their team and gave them that extra boost that was needed to win. Wouldn't it feel great to give that edge back to our team?

If you want any info or have any ideas for drum usage, signs (I have time to make one or two today), or goofy inspirational cheers, please post. And RSVPs are always welcome.

I can't come tnight, but Sat and Sunday are certain, and Friday is possible.

RE: Signs. I think there's probably something about the colours blue and red, but I can't quite put my finger on it.

I'm busy too but for people going Sunday, is 518 the place to be?
Named For Hank - Thursday, May 13 2004 @ 10:38 AM EDT (#66000) #
Yep, 518 it is. As it stands, the drum is only guaranteed to be there tonight and Saturday, with the other days being possibilities. The only day I can attend is tonight -- tomorrow I'm seeing David Bowie at the John Labatt Centre and then on the weekend I'm in Montreal.

I believe that 518 is now the official section of the Cheer Club.

Schilling's pitching tonight. Did he lose a game in the 93 Series at SkyDome? If so, how about a large banner with that date on it?
_Keith Talent - Thursday, May 13 2004 @ 11:11 AM EDT (#66002) #
David Bowie's in town?!?
_Keith Talent - Thursday, May 13 2004 @ 11:13 AM EDT (#66003) #
Are you sure it's Bowie or just KC-closer McDougal as imposter, skipping his AAA assignment?
_Keith Talent - Thursday, May 13 2004 @ 11:14 AM EDT (#66004) #
I'll be bringing young women to the game tonight.

Please tell me they're opening the Dome.
Named For Hank - Thursday, May 13 2004 @ 11:25 AM EDT (#66006) #
Hey, Keith, I thought you had nice seats? Or are you just sending the women up with us?

Schilling lost the last time he matched up against Batista in the Dome, when Chris Gomez hit that grand slam off of him. Which is why we made the hammer in the first place.

Jobu coming tonight?

My wife got me Bowie tickets for Christmas, but he cancelled with laryngitis and the rescheduled date was one I couldn't make. But he's playing in London, Ontario (which is a couple of hours away) at a smaller venue, so she got me tickets to that for my birthday.

The forecast I saw this morning called for rain this afternoon, which means they probably won't open the Dome up. But I would happily be wrong on that, it's a beautiful day right now.

The best banner I can think of so far is still BOSTON ROB CAME IN SECOND AND SO WILL YOU. Someone give me a better idea so I don't have to print that one.

Nice seats on Sunday with Mrs. Keith. Tonight I'm slummin' in 518: TEN-RUN HAT! I guess I was expecting the TEN-RUN HAT to be extraordinary because of the association with a ten-gallon hat.

re: Gomez GS: no quesiton Gomez will be starting tonight right?

I guess I was expecting the TEN-RUN HAT to be extraordinary because of the association with a ten-gallon hat.

Heh, maybe I'll have to get a gigantically oversized cowboy hat and put a Jays logo on it.

DAMON: "Oooga Booga!"
Named For Hank - Thursday, May 13 2004 @ 11:39 AM EDT (#66015) #
A series of SEPARATED AT BIRTH posters, featuring Johnny Damon and Captain Caveman, Tom Hanks in Cast Away, and Jacqueline Smith from Charlie's Angels.

Seriously, have you seen his flowing hair when he runs? Play that back in slo-mo and it's so Charlie's Angels.
_Cristian - Thursday, May 13 2004 @ 11:50 AM EDT (#66016) #
For Damon

"I don't know how to hit. I'm just a simple caveman" with a picture of Phil Hartman's Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer. If it's too long, I second "Ooga Booga." "Hurt Schilling" is also very good.
_Brent - Thursday, May 13 2004 @ 12:19 PM EDT (#66017) #
NFH: if you can make the "separated at birth" shots big enough to be picked up by the television crew, I would bet cash money that RSN shows it on their broadcast.

Faulds has been using the same old Captain Caveman joke all year. He would eat it up.
Named For Hank - Thursday, May 13 2004 @ 12:29 PM EDT (#66018) #
I can, I just need high-res pictures of the folks in question. Anyone have access to that kind of stuff?
_Keith Talent - Thursday, May 13 2004 @ 12:36 PM EDT (#66019) #
Eerie story about Damon:

I was listening to Jim Roam interviewing Damon. Damon was talking about the time he got knocked out in that playoff game in Oakland last year. Remember when they had him on the stretcher and he gave the Oakland fans the thumbs-up? He says he was so messed up, and looking up and seeing the Oakland Coliseum he thought he was still playing for the A's, wearing the Oakland uniform: the reason for the thumbs-up.
_Brian - Thursday, May 13 2004 @ 12:48 PM EDT (#66020) #
I posted this idea in the chants and cheers thread but since it was at the bottom (probably to late to be noticed) I thought I'd throw it out here again.

Has anyone ever tried starting a Queen style "We will Rock You" crowd participation.

Substituting "He will he will walk you" when an opposing pitcher is getting wild or "We will we will rock you" when a Blue Jay hitter or pitcher needs some support.

I can't make it myself tonight because I'm way out here in the mountains of B.C. in the middle of nowhere.
_Jobu - Thursday, May 13 2004 @ 12:49 PM EDT (#66021) #
Im trying my best to somehow work my way down to tonights game. I know i'll be there Sunday and most likely friday, but tonight I'm having a dickens of a time trying to secure somekind of transport down to the Dome. Im looking up the bus schedules now to see if i can take the bus down to the Dome from the sticks. The HAMMER simply NEEDS to be there tonight, I gotta find a way down. If anyone see's a guy with a HAMMER running down the highway its probably me.
Named For Hank - Thursday, May 13 2004 @ 12:50 PM EDT (#66022) #
I read that in the other thread and was thinking that the drum will make it way easier to do We Will Rock You. It will become a question of whether or not Bird Droppings can keep time. ;)
Thomas - Thursday, May 13 2004 @ 01:47 PM EDT (#66023) #
Should we meet up inside the Dome in 518 or are people meeting outside beforehand?

I think we should make a sign for Frank, except he probably won't be starting.

How about something for Millar like, "Kevin, if you were in Japan you might have more than 2 homers." Except that's long.
Named For Hank - Thursday, May 13 2004 @ 02:09 PM EDT (#66024) #
JAPAN CALLED, THEY WANT MILLAR BACK

I'll be arriving around 6:50 at the gate 9 box office, so I can meet up with you there. Otherwise, inside is fine. I'm waiting on a response from Droppings to see if he needs some drum-carrying help.
Craig B - Thursday, May 13 2004 @ 03:09 PM EDT (#66025) #
By the way, I really agree that they should have the Dome open tonight, but it's now 3:10pm and the roof is still completely closed. If they open it up, you guys will be the first to know (I can see it from my window... :)
Named For Hank - Thursday, May 13 2004 @ 04:08 PM EDT (#66026) #
According to the Fan 590, the lid will be open tonight!

HOORAY FOR ME BEING WRONG!
Thomas - Thursday, May 13 2004 @ 04:22 PM EDT (#66027) #
It's opening now....I can see it.

This is about the right time, too. They usually start it around mid-May, but they have to be reasonably sure that it won't rain, so I guess the forecast is good.

I can't believe someone hasn't mentioned this before (they probably have), but we need to get some pictures of Teddy Roosevelt and use them to count K's in Lilly's start. COMN above to see a nice pic of Roosevelt. This may take some ink, but I think it'd be a good routine. If we wanted to take it a step further, we could get like the Wolf Pack, Duck Pond (no longer there), Padilla Floatilla and so forth in Philadelphia and find garb to dress up in.

So I'm stuck in Oakville because of the chemical fire on the GO train tracks between here and Toronto. Which means unless they clean this up in half an hour I won't be able to get down there for the game.

Someone else will have to lead.
Named For Hank - Thursday, May 13 2004 @ 06:15 PM EDT (#66033) #
I cannot believe that I am stuck here.

I want to cry.
Named For Hank - Thursday, May 13 2004 @ 06:29 PM EDT (#66034) #
There are about 50 Boston Red Sox fans milling about at the Oakville GO station here. They must have been staying at the cheap hotel out behind where I work.

Well, now they're stuck like me.
Craig B - Thursday, May 13 2004 @ 06:33 PM EDT (#66035) #
Why don't you get those Sox guys, order 12 cabs and go that way?

You'll arrive nearly on time and it'll only cost like $8 each if you go four to a taxi.
Named For Hank - Thursday, May 13 2004 @ 06:37 PM EDT (#66036) #
I believe they have already taken off in cabs. But with the road closures, too, traffic is going to be insane.

Hey, you're not going to the game, are you Craig?
