The day after a fine win, everyone's probably basking in the memory of yesterday's sunshine.

The always-reliable Spencer Fordin has the whole story on bluejays.com : Halladay on top of his game. Mike Ganter, for the Sun chain, has Easy does it for Doc.

I don't feel like running all over tarnation for the rest of today's stories, two should be enough. I will note, though, that tonight's matchup is no-TV (except pay-per-view on Rogers), so head down to the Dome if you want the action imprinted on your visual cortex.

Also, today's headline on dodgerblues.com is utterly unappropriate and also hilarious.

Stat of the day: according to Ken Rosenthal's latest column (COMN), the Blue Jays lead the majors in most 0-2 counts faced by their batters (280). This accords with my anecdotal experience of repeatedly seeing Toronto batters deep in the hole. If the philosophy of strike-zone management is to wait for your pitch and then drive it, one could conclude that Jays batters are doing a really bad job of identifying that pitch.

Side note: the never-ending effort to sell everything on the Internet continues. If you click on the link and visit the Fox Sports page, your cursor will change to a different icon -- I think it's a shaver, but I can't tell. I'm not positive that that's the tackiest thing I've ever seen, but it's close.

At what point will one of the NY or Boston tabloids call Pedro, Pay-dro when he talks about his contract?

Or has it already happened?

I got to tell you, I mostly agree with Griffin's assesment today of Reed Johnson being platooned. For his career he still hits .279/.348/.383 agianst righties. Thats not great but its not horrible either, and he has a decent glove in RF. Until they're willing to call up Gross or Rios I dont think the Jays have a better option there.

Maybe all his bunting has P.O.'d the front office though. The one problem I have with the front office is that, although I largely agree with their strategy, when they have a player who is a good player but not necessarily their type of player they treat him like he is a burden.

What do people think of Simon Pond? I would love him to pull it together but I'm not sure that he's going to get the chance. Phelps is hitting terrible right now so anyone hitting, defense or not, will stick. I'm of two minds, 1) He played well in Spring Training and hits consistently at AAA. He should be able to do it at the MLB levle. 2) You cannot seperate the mental from the physical ability and he looks lost out there. I'm glad that he finally made contact and lets hope that he can pick it up.

Stat of the day: according to Ken Rosenthal's latest column (COMN), the Blue Jays lead the majors in most 0-2 counts faced by their batters (280).

This might explain why the Jays aren't hitting many home runs - they're falling behind in the count, and have to swing defensively with two strikes.

I forgot to add:

What do people think of Simon Pond?

The Jays probably should give him a few weeks to see what he can do (as they did with Joe Lawrence a couple of years ago). You can't keep him in AAA forever; eventually, he'll be blocking somebody's path.

If I'm not mistaken, it has been used before by the Boston Herald.

I'd just like to point out that Buster Olney is the dumbest sack of crap this side of the International Date Line.

I can't imagine why it is that people are unable to separate bunting from sacrificing. Who said bunting was a bad idea? No thinking person, I daresay. Giving away outs is the problem, and that is not what Reed Johnson does, any more so than Delgado does when he hits the ball hard, on the ground, to the shortstop-playing-second base.

I haven't met the /entire/ front office, but from what I've seen, the Jays brass is entirely intelligent enough to make the distinction, and so I would be surprised if they considered Reed Johnson's bunting a problem.

If Greg Myers weren't hurt, he'd be the DH against RHP. It just takes one hot bat to take Josh Phelps' job away from him, and as much as it pains me to say it, Phelps might need a month in the IL.

Heh, what did Buster have to say?

Who says he has to say anything?

as much as it pains me to say it, Phelps might need a month in the IL.

And JBR becomes the first to voice the unspoken fear in all of us...

(Just for the record, I don't think we're there yet. But if you had told me Phelps was going to develop like this, I'd have been very, very surprised.)

I worry about Phelps long swing. Maybe its too late in his career to ask him to shorten it.
