The Fisher Cats split a doubleheader with the Thunder. In the opener, New Hampshire jumped out to a 9-0 lead after 3 innings and were never headed. Todd Ozias was the beneficiary, and he went 6 innings, allowing 1 earned run on 8 hits and 1 walk, while striking out 3. Andy Torres went the final three innings for the long save. Justin Singleton homered and walked twice, Mikael Jova homered, and John-Ford Griffin drove in 4 with 2 doubles to lead the Fisher Cat offence. Aaron Hill went 3-5.

In the nightcap, Josh Banks threw six shutout innings, but the Fisher Cats could not mount an offence all game. Dan Jackson gave up a run in the seventh and took the loss, while Scott Wiggins got the win in relief for the Thunder. Banks struck out seven while allowing three hits and three walks. Tyrell Godwin reached base three times in four plate appearance, and stole his 17th base of the season.

Charleston 6 Lexington 4

Christian Snavely's 2 run homer, his 4th of the season, in the top of the ninth was the game-winner in the Alley-Cats' victory. The Cats drew 17 walks, with Peralta, Roberts and Rivera leading the way with 3 each. Thomas Mastny was uncharacteristically wild himself, walking 5 over 4 innings. Mastny gave up all 4 Lexington runs, 2 of which were unearned, on 5 hits. The Cats bullpen was dominant, as usual. Davis Romero, Felix Romero and Brian Reed combined for 5 scoreless innings, giving up 3 hits and 2 walks with 4 strikeouts.

Good report, Mike. Seems like the ump in Lexington had one of those postage-stamp-sized strike zones that makes for long, boring games. Kudos to the Alley Cats for playing the cards they were dealt.

Francis, 10-0, now leads all of Professional Baseball in wins and strikeouts (ahead of the Big Unit, 112 to 109!)

I remember when JP compared Francis to John Cerutti back around the 2002 draft. I figured he would be a much better pitcher than Cerutti and has been doing great so far. It will be interesting to see how he does in Colorado should they hold on to him. That place has not been kind to pitchers.

In the College World Series tournament, the Jays' Zach Jackson pitched a shutout into the 9th inning but gave up four runs and left with two outs. The big blow was a homerun. He only gave up 5 hits and struck out 8 while walking two.
