A four day homestand, featuring two day games, and one of them is on a holiday!

But there's bad news, too: the Cleveland Indians are the least-likely team in the major leagues to be bothered by a giant drum droning away at them from the stands. We'll have to do our very best to shake 'em up.

I won't be attending Monday's game, but I'll be at Tuesday's for sure and probably Wednesday's. How about the rest of you?

I'll get the ball rolling with two random questions (one having nothing to do with the cheerclub).

1) Spurned on by the atmosphere of the Yankees experience and talk to t-shirts, does any one have any ideas for specific signage for the Indians. Being anti-Indians or pro-Jays.

2) If anyone can answer this, I am in your debt. On September 5th, I will be in montreal. The expos play the braves that day in the O at 1:05pm. I have never been to this city before, and I know of their deplorable attendance, but is it realistic to walk up to the box office the day of the game and get 4 tickets directly behind home plate or do those seats actually sell?
Craig B - Friday, July 30 2004 @ 02:56 PM EDT (#45929) #
Jobu, it's reasonable that some tickets in that area would be available, but you are much, much better off buying tickets via the web or calling their box office.

If you want to keep flexibility, you'll probably find that some very good seats (possibly a section of two off from *right* behind the plate) will be available, without a problem.
_Jobu - Friday, July 30 2004 @ 03:00 PM EDT (#45930) #
Thank you Craig B, I am in your debt.

I suppose I was a little to literal with my earlier comments. If I am a few rows back or a section to the side of being right behind homeplate thats find with me. Didnt have to be front row center. I just didnt know if season ticket holders and the few diehards in that city just buy those up ahead of time.
_Paul D - Friday, July 30 2004 @ 03:02 PM EDT (#45931) #
Jobu, I was at the game last Saturday, and as of Thursday we thought that we might need a couple more tickets. Through ticketmaster I was able to see that seats 101 P #1, and 2 were available. Which was good, because we had Secition 101, row P, seats 3,4,5 and 6.

So those were the two best available seats. I imagine you'd be a little bit further back if you needed 4 seats. Those seats were 20 bucks each, and they were pretty good. Lots of people in that section and behind home plate.
_Chris H - Friday, July 30 2004 @ 03:03 PM EDT (#45932) #
I was up in Montreal last weekend...couple days before the Saturday Florida vs. Montreal game they still had tickets in the $40 section just to the right of home plate (one or two sections to the right)...

_Chris H - Friday, July 30 2004 @ 03:06 PM EDT (#45933) #
Yeah, we were looking for four tickets...friends arent big baseball fans so we ended up at the Headliners comedy show...

Paul, did you catch the Twins Parade in the afternoon?

C.
_James W - Friday, July 30 2004 @ 03:14 PM EDT (#45934) #
Jobu, I went to a game last June in Montreal. We were able to go to the box office and buy seats 2 rows behind the Jays (visitors) dugout.
_Paul D - Friday, July 30 2004 @ 03:17 PM EDT (#45935) #
Chris, we were walking along St. Catherine when all of a sudden we ran into all kinds of people marching around. We had no idea what was going on. At first we thought maybe we'd stumbled onto a gay pride parade, but then we realized that if we were in the middle of a pride parade we'd probably know it. So we didn't know what was going on. I'll be happy to tell my friends that we were in a Twins parade, thanks!

And what a great game on Saturday!
Thomas - Friday, July 30 2004 @ 03:21 PM EDT (#45936) #
I went to see St. Louis in Montreal in May, and we got two seats four rows behind home plate about 10 days before, ordering online.

So yes, generally good seats should be available on game day, although as has been said, you'll probably end up a bit further back as you need four together.
_Jobu - Friday, July 30 2004 @ 03:21 PM EDT (#45937) #
All your kind words encourage me. I would have called ahead or got the tickets online but seeing as how i have no credit card its not really an option. But at least I know there's hope I can get primo seats the day of.

Anything else I should check out in the city aside from baseball?
Thomas - Friday, July 30 2004 @ 03:23 PM EDT (#45938) #
Is the O-Drum coming to any games?
_bird droppings - Friday, July 30 2004 @ 03:33 PM EDT (#45939) #
Alright. I have a new job as an assistant film editor on a documentary. This means a few things... First off, I pretty much get to make my own hours for the first few weeks... which means I'll be available for the majority of games over the next little while. Secondly, I'll be working right down the road from the CBC Building on John Street... so I'll have no real excuse to not show up at games.

We should do something big for Rios. I have nothing though.
_Moffatt - Friday, July 30 2004 @ 03:35 PM EDT (#45940) #
We should do something big for Rios

Looking at Aaron's picture of him, giving him a sandwhich would be a good place to start.
Named For Hank - Friday, July 30 2004 @ 04:01 PM EDT (#45941) #
That's cold, Moffatt.

Tell me what the Rios banner should say and I'll make it for Tuesday.
Craig B - Friday, July 30 2004 @ 04:01 PM EDT (#45942) #
Whoo-hoo! Not only am I going on Monday, I managed to snag some VIP seats to boot. So half the game I'll be hootin' and hollerin' up in 518; the other half I'll be kickin' it in style down in the third row right behind Gibby and Carlos.
_Moffatt - Friday, July 30 2004 @ 04:08 PM EDT (#45943) #
That's cold, Moffatt.

Sorry. I still can't get over how someone that slight can hit for any power at all. Wasn't meant as a knock.

The wrong Blue Jay is named Reed.
Mike Green - Friday, July 30 2004 @ 04:10 PM EDT (#45944) #
NFH, Alex sure looks young. "Young gun", "Young lion", "Young dude". Ahh, you can tell I never would have made it in advertising.
robertdudek - Friday, July 30 2004 @ 04:16 PM EDT (#45945) #
Darryl Strawberry wasn't much bulkier when he first came up. And Alfonso Soriano is shorter and almost as lean. Give the kid a few years to fill out.

Oh, I know. I think that makes the kid even more impressive. I mean, if he can hit homers now, what's he going to be like when he adds 20 pounds.

I'm not trying to knock him guys, honest. :)
_Tenobia - Friday, July 30 2004 @ 04:24 PM EDT (#45947) #
How about "Rios Grande"
_Loveshack - Friday, July 30 2004 @ 04:27 PM EDT (#45948) #
I almost hate to be the one to suggest it, but what about "Diamond Rios". It works on so many levels.
Mike Green - Friday, July 30 2004 @ 04:34 PM EDT (#45949) #
I'll second Loveshack's nomination.
_A - Friday, July 30 2004 @ 05:07 PM EDT (#45950) #
Jobu, you'd be taking a risk on this but there are definately deals to be had from scalpers around the Big-O. If you do it right, you can usually haggle about $10-$15 off their asking price, which is lower than cost anyways.

...And did I read it right in the Star that the Expos had 20,000 in attendance last night? Was there a lucrative promo going or...?
_James W - Friday, July 30 2004 @ 05:49 PM EDT (#45951) #
The Expos put on a special for Thursdays. All but the "V.I.P." seats are only $5, and hot dogs are cheap as well. Hence the 20,042 in attendance.

Alright, how about this
Put a picture of Armando Rios and Mark Rios (COMN) in the background, to the left and the right. Maybe black and white. Then put a picture of Alex prominently in the middle, in full blazing color, with the line: "a Rios by any other name would not smell as sweet..."

Yeah, maybe I thought about it too much. It looks really nice in my head though.
_Useless Tyler - Friday, July 30 2004 @ 09:18 PM EDT (#45953) #
Ahhh... four games in a row = four games for me to find a use to justify my membership in the cheer club.

For the banner, I personally liked the suggestion of "Rios grande".

But then, why haven't we made a "Going, going, Zaun!" banner yet?

And by we I of course mean Aaron.

Because he is we.

Yeah.
_Tenobia - Saturday, July 31 2004 @ 10:45 AM EDT (#45954) #
Yeah, maybe I thought about it too much. It looks really nice in my head though.

I did the same thing with "Alexis on Fire"

Looked great in my head, but probably too obscure. Not to mention Rios prefers Alex.
Named For Hank - Sunday, August 01 2004 @ 03:52 PM EDT (#45955) #
Considering the events of this afternoon, should the Rios sign read

WHY STOP AT ONE?

or

ROOKIE OF THE YEAR

?
Thomas - Sunday, August 01 2004 @ 09:11 PM EDT (#45956) #
I like the first one better, myself.

So who is coming tomorrow?
Craig B - Sunday, August 01 2004 @ 09:16 PM EDT (#45957) #
I'll be there to shake hands and lead a cheer or two. But my friend and I will mostly be in our seats... rude to bring someone to Cheer Club when you promised them they'd be in the action seats.
_Designated for - Sunday, August 01 2004 @ 11:29 PM EDT (#45958) #
I'll probably be there for the Simcoe Day Classic (heh) .. up in the 500 level somewhere! Anyone staying to watch Team Canada's practice? I read somewhere that starts at 6 but I'm hoping it's right after the game instead.
_Jobu - Monday, August 02 2004 @ 01:15 PM EDT (#45959) #
I would haggle, but I dont know how to speak french.

Is the drum comming to any of these indians games? Oh the irony....
Named For Hank - Tuesday, August 03 2004 @ 12:32 PM EDT (#45960) #
How was yesterday? I'll be there tonight, a bit late as usual.
_Jobu - Wednesday, August 04 2004 @ 01:15 PM EDT (#45961) #
Seems like this is a dead thread since it was posted so long ago, but i'll ask anyways. Who's going to the Thursday morning game?
Named For Hank - Wednesday, August 04 2004 @ 06:56 PM EDT (#45962) #
No idea. I'm at work. Anyone?
_Jobu - Thursday, August 05 2004 @ 12:20 AM EDT (#45963) #
No drum then I take it?
