The millionth post weekend seemed a good time to dust off the bba.
The Batters Box Average(bba) is a quick and simple look at who posts how often, it's the number of comments* by a bauxite divided by the number of active threads.

Wow, my average on here almost looks like my batting average from last year. ;)

I need...
_Cristian - Monday, August 02 2004 @ 02:46 PM EDT (#46262) #
...to bump up...
_Cristian - Monday, August 02 2004 @ 02:46 PM EDT (#46263) #
...my BBA.
_David A - Monday, August 02 2004 @ 02:52 PM EDT (#46264) #
I would've thought I'd be much higher than that, it's a good thing for the BBFL threads then. Incidentally, where's Steve Z been lately? I can't remember the last time he posted on here.
_Gwyn - Monday, August 02 2004 @ 02:56 PM EDT (#46265) #
David A, the bba a far from scientific process :)
If you posted under some different names I may well have missed adding them together. I tried to capture as many as I could but I'm sure I missed some.
_Mick - Monday, August 02 2004 @ 03:01 PM EDT (#46266) #
Gwyn! Are you suggesting that some posters to Da Box might not use their real identity????
_Gwyn - Monday, August 02 2004 @ 03:09 PM EDT (#46267) #
Mick, I would never accuse bauxites of such shenanigans :)
To my poor little script that generated the list however if Davis had posted as 'David' and 'David A' (for example) it would count him as two different posters.
_Rob - Monday, August 02 2004 @ 03:10 PM EDT (#46268) #
Wait a second...how am I 11th in posts? I only found this site last December. Am I that much of an annoyance?
_Fozzy - Monday, August 02 2004 @ 03:35 PM EDT (#46269) #
yeah, a .045 bba for the Fozzy! Kevin Cash, eat your heart out!
Thomas - Monday, August 02 2004 @ 04:28 PM EDT (#46270) #
Oooh. Scott Carson and Mike Wilner are tied. Who will jump into the lead?

Stay tuned to Batter's Box to find out....
_Matt - Monday, August 02 2004 @ 04:37 PM EDT (#46271) #
I think there are several who post under my name... I kinda needed to make it more obscure than simply my actual name to insure that it is only I who you see under such name... :( So my victory is kinda hollow... :(
_Keith Talent - Monday, August 02 2004 @ 04:51 PM EDT (#46272) #
What a neat list! I guess I'm the Price-is-Right Mendoza winner: closest to .200 without going over.
_joemayo - Monday, August 02 2004 @ 05:02 PM EDT (#46273) #
there appears to be too many Mike's on this board. i am starting over with this name. frankly it sounds made up...
Thomas - Monday, August 02 2004 @ 05:02 PM EDT (#46274) #
http://www.battersbox.ca/archives/00002187.shtml#comments_73
And Wilner does it.....(COMN)

However, a one-post lead is never safe with Scott Carson lurking, as a quick three-post could be around the corner.

Oh, what excitement.
_6-4-3 - Monday, August 02 2004 @ 05:12 PM EDT (#46275) #
Well, I'm not on the list yet, but sadly my Batter's Box Average must be higher than my Minor Baseball Batting Average.
_braden - Monday, August 02 2004 @ 05:14 PM EDT (#46276) #
I had a great time at your last party, Joe Mayo. I was in charge of the music. I turned that mother out.
Named For Hank - Monday, August 02 2004 @ 05:29 PM EDT (#46277) #
Jesus, I'm eighth? I don't know whether to be proud or ashamed.
Lucas - Monday, August 02 2004 @ 05:57 PM EDT (#46278) #
I deserve double credit (at least) for my lengthy and increasingly inscrutable BBFL stat posts.
_Spicol - Monday, August 02 2004 @ 06:04 PM EDT (#46279) #
NFH, considering that last time we did this, you didn't even rank, I'd lean towards proud if I were you.

Personally, I've dropped from 7th to 10th place. I've clearly got work to do.

Thanks, Gwyn.
Dave Till - Monday, August 02 2004 @ 06:14 PM EDT (#46280) #
My posting average has dropped from .476 to .343. I fear that this means I'm about to be demoted to the class-AAA baseball blog. Or maybe I'll be put on waivers and claimed by the Tampa Bay blog.

:-(
Dave Till - Monday, August 02 2004 @ 06:15 PM EDT (#46281) #
Oh, yeah, I almost forgot: :-) (There's no truth to the rumour that I broke these into separate posts to raise my average.)
Mike D - Monday, August 02 2004 @ 06:16 PM EDT (#46282) #
Back off, Till! Don't try and catch me.
_A - Monday, August 02 2004 @ 06:24 PM EDT (#46283) #
In the last 13.5 months, I've raised my average a full .333 and moved from 47th to 13th in the overall standings...If that's not an A+ prospect, what is? ;-)
_JackFoley - Monday, August 02 2004 @ 06:25 PM EDT (#46284) #
It seems I owe everyone 329 apologies.
Craig B - Monday, August 02 2004 @ 06:38 PM EDT (#46285) #
39 behind. And gaining. I want the black ink, baby!
_Dr. Zarco - Monday, August 02 2004 @ 06:58 PM EDT (#46286) #
That's a pretty neat list. It's fun to see everyone's names all lined up together. I was a little surprised I was 30th (yes, I counted down that far). Ah, I shall be even higher next year. There is no offseason!
_Lefty - Monday, August 02 2004 @ 07:02 PM EDT (#46287) #
What a neat list! I guess I'm the Price-is-Right Mendoza winner: closest to .200 without going over.

Hey, Keith Talent, I think if you add my lefty posts to my Lefty posts I might be closest to the .200 Mendoza line. Not that it matters. ;)
_Mick - Monday, August 02 2004 @ 07:05 PM EDT (#46288) #
Sorry, A. You're 14th. I'm 13th. Which is what I was last time the rankings were released. I raised my OBP (On-Box Percentage) from .285 to .383, cagily keeping it exactly in the range where my ranking would not change.

Hanging on the fringes of the Top 10, where nobody will notice me, until I decide the time is right. Then I will attack. And 12th place will be MINE!
_joemayo - Monday, August 02 2004 @ 07:05 PM EDT (#46289) #
don't tap on the glass
_A - Monday, August 02 2004 @ 07:50 PM EDT (#46290) #
Sorry, A. You're 14th. I'm 13th

Top prospects don't think about petty things like counting -- we just get the job done.
_Tassle - Monday, August 02 2004 @ 09:08 PM EDT (#46291) #
208 posts? I didn't know I had that much to say o.O
_braden - Monday, August 02 2004 @ 09:15 PM EDT (#46292) #
Sure thing, Joe Mayo.
_Ryan Lind - Monday, August 02 2004 @ 09:17 PM EDT (#46293) #
Wow.

When I opened this thread, I immediately scrolled to the bottom to see where I was. When I didn't see my name, I click on the "full list." It took me a few minutes to realize that I actually have over 500 posts. Very surprising since I pretty much only post in game threads.

I must have the worst quality/quantity ratio of anyone here. :(
Dave Till - Monday, August 02 2004 @ 09:33 PM EDT (#46294) #
Back off, Till! Don't try and catch me.

"Don't look back - something may be gaining on you." :-)
_greenfrog - Monday, August 02 2004 @ 10:04 PM EDT (#46295) #
I've gotta say, this site rocks. I've been a Jays fan since 1984 (when I was 12), and I discovered this site about a year ago. It's pretty cool to see what a keen group of fans (and the internet) can do. I love the interactivity of it all. Eg, the fact that Wilner checks out the site. Can JP be far behind?
_Rob - Monday, August 02 2004 @ 10:07 PM EDT (#46296) #
From the first article on BBA, that Spicol linked to:

Jonny German: All very interesting... will this grow into awards?
Most Prolific Poster... okay, just write Coach on it.
Rookie Poster of the Month, for the best new poster.
Most Annoying Habit, for a habitual and annoying posting trait.
Andujar Poster, for the poster who surprises you.
Value Per Post, a quality / quantity measure.
Keith Law Award, for statistical analysis.

Interesting ideas. Off the top of my head, Moffatt's old "Cheers, Mike" tagline has to win Most Annoying Habit. ;)
_greenfrog - Monday, August 02 2004 @ 10:08 PM EDT (#46297) #
Incidentally, if anyone needs a utility infielder with a .058 average (but with good peripherals) for the stretch drive, contact my agent.
_The Original Ry - Monday, August 02 2004 @ 11:17 PM EDT (#46298) #
I'm another one of those who had their stats split. I've used three names primarily on this site and I should be somewhere around the 400 post mark. While the numbers above don't show it, I can boast a three-digit BBA. :-)
_IainS - Monday, August 02 2004 @ 11:32 PM EDT (#46299) #
Well my stats stink... a whole 22 posts for an 0.010 average.
_R Billie - Tuesday, August 03 2004 @ 12:26 AM EDT (#46300) #
Have these been adjusted for age and level of competition?
_dp - Tuesday, August 03 2004 @ 12:48 AM EDT (#46301) #
Do I get points for consistent inconsistancy? From .147 last time to .158 this round.
_David A - Tuesday, August 03 2004 @ 01:30 AM EDT (#46302) #
Park factors are definately hiding my true potential.
_Daryn - Tuesday, August 03 2004 @ 09:13 AM EDT (#46303) #
Do you guys have a total hits curve? Something that shows the level of growth... I'd expect it to be ramping up pretty good.. it might give you a clue as to when Greymatter will barf....
_Emerald - Tuesday, August 03 2004 @ 04:51 PM EDT (#46304) #
I only wish I had as many dalmations as I do posts (101, 102 now)
_Smack - Tuesday, August 03 2004 @ 08:29 PM EDT (#46305) #
I feel I should inform you that my aliases include Coach, Craig B. Moffatt, and what the heck, csimon.

That should pull up my average in a hurry. No more comparisons to Luis Rivas for me.
_Magpie - Tuesday, August 03 2004 @ 11:38 PM EDT (#46306) #
I've posted 310 times?

Gulp. Do I need to get a life?

(Plus once under my real name, in the Tom Cheek thread.)

There! 311!!
_Ben - Wednesday, August 04 2004 @ 02:06 AM EDT (#46307) #
79 posts? Does that mean I have a live or I'm not dedicated to the site enough? I'd have more if I was in the Toronto area and could contribute to the game threads I think. Plus most of the time I post its way late at night and everyone is alseep so no one responds, or they do and by the time I see it the topic has been dead for several hours
