Toronto essentially trades Hudson for Durazo.

Is this realistic? Good trade for Toronto? I'm just hypothesizing.

Orlando Hudson to A's, Edwin Jackson to A's . Tim Hudson, Eric Hinske, cash to Dodgers. Hee Seep Choi and Oakland minor leaguer to Toronto. Not sure if this is fair, but sounds good to me.

Hudson and Hinske for Choi? Seems really steep to me. That'd be an amazing trade for the A's, though.

That only works for me if the minor leaguer coming North is Joe Blanton.

This is outside your "challenge" parameters, but I can dream, can't I? And I should get bonus creativity points for a four-way deal.

1. Dodgers get Javier Vazquez
2. A's get Orlando Hudson, Edwin Jackson, Antonio Perez and Dionar Navarro
3. Jays get Erubiel Durazo
4. Yankees get Tim Hudson

Basically, the Jays swap Judson for Durazo; the Dodgers give up the same package they offered for Hudson and get Vazquez; the Yankees deal Vazquez and their only remaining prospoect for Hudson; and the A's get four excellent young prospects in exchange for Hudson and Durazo.

Maybe it's just me, but I wouldn't even consider flipping the O-Dog straight up for Durazo. But hey, I did ask you guys to involve the O-Dog somehow. :)

I agree with Moffatt. Hudson for Durazo is insane and would likely be done by any GM in the league.

Mick, I agree Vazquez gets to LA, but I think it'll happen with RJ going to the Yanks and Penny & Navarro going to AZ.

There's no way the Dodgers give up Edwin Jackson for Miguel Batista. I do like the creativity of having Hudson come to the Jays, though.

Nelly might be on to something there. I was just trying to get THud in pinstripes, of course. Philly might have to give up a little more than that in the above Menage-a-Trade, but with Milton going to the Yankees, they just might.

Although the Phillies weren't one of the teams I mentioned, I second Mick's thoughts on Nelly's proposal.

I don't think that durazo is worth hudson, not by a long shot, especially when you consider the ups and downs of durazo's career and that he is not a 30+ hr guy.

Nelly, I also like howard, but he is very similar to phelps, and his strikeouts numbers may be attributed to his swing. If I were the jays, I would look at kotchman first, and see what the angels might want. Since they need a starting pitcher how about:

hudson to the angels
kotchman to the jays
hudson and rosario to the A's

I realize that this trade helps a divisional rival of the A's, but you never know

Toronto then signs Greg Colbrunn and are set for 1B next year. Hinske, Batista, and Negron/Rosario are sent to CWS for Lee (to play LF) and Crede (to play against some tough lefties in order to rest Koskie and to get some AB at DH). OF of Lee-Wells-Rios with Sparky no. 4 (how nice does that sound? offensively and defensivaly solid). Choi looks like the stereotypical solid defensive 1B (tall and athletic). A Koskie-Adams-Hudson-Choi/Colbrunn IF is looking solid defensively. I think through these moves the Jays Offense is likely to outperfrom last year's offense. '05 Lee + Koskie should outperform '04 Delgado + Hinske. Hudson, Wells, and Rios should improve. A full year of Zaun with a little help from Myers should improve C, and a full year of Catalanotto at DH (with a little help from Myers and Crede) should be much better than the '04 DHs. The rotation would be off to an excellent start with Halladay-Lilly-Bush. Hopefully Clement or Perez would slot in at number 2 and Towers/Chacin/Cheap Estes-ish pick up can give us 140-150 innings in the 5 slot. The bullpen should be better, with a Ligtenberg improving at least a little, a full season of Frasor, a consitent season from Speier, support from Chacin/Towers and Chulk. If Steve Kline were to be signed they'd be set there as well. I've talked myself into being very optimistic about the Jays next year, if these deals were to go down ;-).

i had read somewhere that beane had proposed hudson for utley and madson... wade, reportedly, turned it down because he was unwilling to trade utley.

i think howard would be a decent gamble for an organization without much depth at his position.

Ed Wade must REALLY like Utley to turn down Tim Hudson in return. If I were an A's fan I would probably be scratching my head at getting only Utley in Madson in return for one of the big three aces.

I also think a Hudson/Rosario for Howard/Madson deal leaves a sour taste in my mouth. Howard can mash but he strikes out a lot and I have no idea if his hitting will carry over to the bigs. Madson has pretty good numbers but was a rookie for the most part. I have no idea what to expect from him.

If the Dodgers were to be involved I would find a way to get James Loney here. I'd feel better about giving up Orlando in such a trade.

Listening to a clip on ESPN of Peter Gammons; apparently the Dodgers tried to make a trade with Toronto so they could get players to trade for Hudson, Toronto declined. So the deal would go down like this:

I meant to say Madson was a rookie reliever for the most part. We've seen countless young pitchers come up and have a fine half season with a big club and then stumble the next year. If I trade Hudson I'd want to get someone I was quite confident in making an impact.

RE: the second rumour it's an interesting trade but I don't see any way JP gives up Lilly in addition to Rios at this point. He likes both of those players although Jackson and Choi aren't exactly chopped liver. Particularly if you pair Choi with a veteran like Colbrunn. You wouldn't want to pay that much to get a Choi-type though.

To Toronto: S. Green, a low level L.A. prospect and $8 million ($2 million from Oakland and $6 million from L.A.)

Oakland gets the players it wants plus still saves around $3 million. LA gets Hudson and dumps $10 million of Green's contract while only giving up Jackson and now they have insurance in case Beltre departs and money to go after a Beltran, Delgado or Magglio Ordonez. Toronto gets a middle of the order bat on the cheap (one year and $6 million), who can play first or left, and dumps Hinske's and Ligtenberg's salaries so they can still add a starting pitcher (Clement or Odalis Perez) and another bat or two (Polanco and Olerud/Colbrun/T. Lee, etc.).

I may be alone in thinking that Green is primed for a major come back year if he can get out of L.A.

Edwin Jackson, in theory, is an acceptable place to begin for a discussion of Tim Hudson's value. And while Orlando Hudson is a dynamic talent, we've really yet to see him perfrom at a consistently high level of play. I want more for Hudson. Imagine the Jays trading one of the best pitchers in baseball -- otherwise known as Halladay, Roy -- for an "athletic" second baseman and a 22-year-old pitcher. Jays fans would be aghast. As they should be.

One thing is certain: Tim Hudson deserves better treatment from his employers. Just do it and get it over with already, Mr. Beane. Yeah, yeah, he's a public figure and all, and players are traded and not re-signed all the time, but that doesn't make it any more pleasant.

As we discussed yesterday, O-Dog who's extremely valuable, is the chip that J.P. cashes in regarding an overloaded infield.

Oakland gets a gold glove calibre defender( they value defence),who can hit and is still relatively cheap for the next 4 years.

The Dodgers who have the financial resources to afford him now and in the future, get Tim Hudson and Gross who will help off set the loss of the injured Werth.

Toronto, who's point in the development cycle is still in the future, get a young first baseman who needs playing time to develop, a promising young starter and a second baseman (Ellis)who'll hold the fort until Jeff Kent facsimile ,Aaron Hill is ready.

Tim Hudson is a diminishing asset, he'll be worth only draft choices to Oakland this time next year. The A's weakest position is second base, you'd be taking O-Dog on because he's cheap and you think his hitting has more upside.

I'm not sure I agree. Beane isn't the one announcing contract deadlines 9 months prior to when Hudson becomes a free agent. Hudson may not have wanted to endure a circus all season, but in doing so quite publicly he effectively created one right now. He pretty much issued a public ultimatum, so what else is Beane to do other than go and try and peddle him right now?

Choi's not worth all that. There's better 1b options available like Texas 1b prospect Adrian Gonzalez who's cheaper and has more upside.

I'd think the Rangers signing of Hidalgo also indicates they've scrapped discussions about moving Teixeira to RF so A-Gon could play 1B.

Is Toronto ready for another A. Gonzalez in the infield, really?
