BBFL owners keep five players from the previous year's roster. For the first time, Alomar owners will face the issue of lame ducks, as league rules stipulate that players cannot perform under the same ownership for more than three years. The junior Barfield Division owners chose their keepers for the first time.

And now, the 95 players each owner cannot draft in 2005:

KEEPING YOUR KEEPERS

Listen up, owners, especially Barfield owners, as this is the most important part of the draft process. Yahoo does not recognize keepers as such; we have to draft them. Each owner must make his keepers the first five picks in the draft. You MUST (MUST!!!) pre-rank the players in your draft so that your keepers are the top five. That way, if you can't attend the draft or suffer a disconnection, your first five picks will be your keepers. After every owner has selected his keepers, the draft proceeds as normal in the sixth round with the owner having the worst winning percentage in 2004 getting the first pick.

To pre-rank your players, go to your league and select "My Team." Underneath your team name within a grey rectangle is the link "Edit Pre-Draft Player Rankings." From there, you can change the default rankings however you want, except that the first five must be your keepers. I have no way of checking to insure that you've done so. I can only hound you all throughout the week, which is what I will do. If you're unsure of the process, please email me or post here for help.

CARTER DIVISION UPDATE

Three owners have yet to sign up their teams in Yahoo. Please do so now. The draft is on Thursday and cannot commence with an odd number of teams.

Manny Ramirez, relief pitcher. Interesting decision.
Shrike - Friday, March 25 2005 @ 10:57 PM EST (#107554) #
I'm thinking Aramis Ramirez has a better arm.
Pistol - Friday, March 25 2005 @ 11:02 PM EST (#107555) #
M Ramirez should be M Rivera.
Geoff North - Saturday, March 26 2005 @ 12:28 AM EST (#107556) #
Scott,

I've only had Schmidt on my roster for one season, so I believe he should only be considered a second year keeper, not third. Thanks.
3RunHomer - Saturday, March 26 2005 @ 08:12 AM EST (#107562) #
I traded for IRod and M Cabrera before last season. I think they should be 2s instead of 3s. I could be wrong.

I certainly don't want to sound like a whiner. Serious kudos to our Commish! I'm gonna pre-rank my guys now and I'll also exclude everyone else's keepers (as we did last year).

Is there any room left for any new managers? (i.e. if the other managers don't show?)
David Goodwin - Saturday, March 26 2005 @ 12:10 PM EST (#107574) #
Sherrystar (or any other interested fantasy managers)

The BBFL is full, but we have one spot remaining in a BBFL style league called the Leftovers. The league is not affiliated with Batter's Box, but many mangers in the BBFL or on the waiting list have joined.

The particulars you will need:

I'll check out the errors. I knew there'd be some.

Thanks David, see you on Tuesday!

Cheers!

The Leftovers leage is now full. Thanks to everyone who signed up.

Good luck to all at their respective drafts, be they BBFL, Leftovers, or both.

Jonny German - Monday, March 28 2005 @ 09:07 AM EST (#107700) #
Jimmy Rollins is listed as an outfielder in the Barfield table.
Pistol - Tuesday, March 29 2005 @ 09:43 AM EST (#107847) #
The draft order is the reverse order of finish from the regular season last year, correct?

Yahoo currently says it's random.
Hr Jays Simpsons - Tuesday, March 29 2005 @ 10:29 AM EST (#107859) #
If it is a snake draft (1->20, then 20->1) should it not be the best team have the first pick because by the time the 6th round comes along (all keepers drafted), the 20th has the first pick.

Hr Jays Simpsons - Tuesday, March 29 2005 @ 10:32 AM EST (#107860) #
I have the first pick in the Alomar league since I have the worst team. I am willing to trade this pick (draft a guy for your team) in exchange for a good SP or CL and your 1st or 2nd pick. We can do the trade after the draft.

Anybody interested?
Geoff North - Tuesday, March 29 2005 @ 11:51 AM EST (#107868) #
Not to be a stick in the mud (I like the idea of trading draft picks), but since we're outside the offseason trading window, I think it would be against league rules to make a trade now.

Also, I believe we have no official mechanism in place for trading draft picks - as long as the draft is hosted by Yahoo and we're stuck with their order, it will be very difficult to ensure that draft pick trading is done fairly. In any case, this is probably an issue that should be voted after the season.
Spicol - Tuesday, March 29 2005 @ 12:14 PM EST (#107875) #
There is a serious amount of talent left on the board in Alomar. It's possible that everyone but Coach can still draft a Yahoo Top-100 player.
Hr Jays Simpsons - Tuesday, March 29 2005 @ 12:57 PM EST (#107882) #
It would not be illegal to make the trade since the trade will not be completed until the season begins.

Are you saying I cannot discuss possible trades with another owner right now even thought the trade won't be execute until the season start?

There will be a lot of trust involved in trading a draft pick since the other manager will have to draft a player for you. I think everyone in the league has some integrity or else we would have seen teams dump players at the end of the season to screw everybody else over. Tell me how often have you seen that in a Yahoo public league.

So anybody interested in the #1 pick? There is a total of 20 players left on the board which are a top 100 player according to Yahoo.

Since it is hard to keep track of trading draft picks, maybe it is easier to trade draft orders. We might one to keep this in mind for the rule committee for next season.

Cristian - Tuesday, March 29 2005 @ 12:58 PM EST (#107883) #
Is the league commish able to se the draft order?
David Goodwin - Tuesday, March 29 2005 @ 03:42 PM EST (#107934) #
Yes, the commissioner can set the draft order in Yahoo. And Homer Jay is right, the draft order should simply be set to the order of finish last season, since round 6 the 20th team will get the first pick.

I'm sure Lucas and Craig B will get the draft order set in the next few days for Alomar and Barfield respectively. Draft order for Carter will be determined randomly by Yahoo when the live draft applet opens.
Pepper Moffatt - Wednesday, March 30 2005 @ 12:07 PM EST (#108102) #
It looks like my team (The Fish Candy) won't be able to make the draft. I've pre-ranked all my players and excluded everyone else's, so there should be no problems. Plus the draft should now go faster without me trying to figure out who I want. :)
Craig B - Thursday, March 31 2005 @ 12:32 AM EST (#108237) #
Just a note on tomorrow's Barfield draft. I am currently pre-setting the keepers (yes, Scott, you actually can preset keepers!) and I will also reverse the draft order. More details in an e-mail to come shortly to all owners.
Spicol - Thursday, March 31 2005 @ 07:54 AM EST (#108247) #
Craig, do you mean that you as Commissioner can preset all of the keepers? If so, how? I'm not familiar with this feature.
Pistol - Thursday, March 31 2005 @ 07:05 PM EST (#108426) #
It looks like the draft order is backwards for Barfield.
ShakerMo-Jo - Thursday, March 31 2005 @ 11:33 PM EST (#108479) #
I'd discovered this site a month ago. I've been playing in another Yahoo league for four years, but I've been looking for a serious keeper league. Is it too early to get on the waiting list for next season? Hope you all had fun at your draft!
