A late homer was the highlight of a 1-2 day for the farm affiliates, as the offences struggled to score runs.

Pawtucket 3 Syracuse 4

Anton French's 8th inning homer broke a 3-3 tie and propelled the Sky Chiefs to victory. Francisco Rosario started and went 6 fine innings, allowing 2 runs on 3 hits and 1 walk, while striking out 4. Justin Miller gave up an unearned run in the top of the eighth on an Aaron Hill error, but pitched well for the win. Miller surrendered the one unearned run on 3 hits and no walks with 3 strikeouts. French was the offensive star with 2 triples, as well as his game-winning longball. Hill had a busy day, starting 2 double plays and throwing out a runner at the plate, as well as going 2-4. Gabe Gross went 2-4, and almost threw out a runner at the plate in the eighth, as Manager Marty Pevey was ejected arguing the call.

Dunedin 0 Brevard County 1

Bubbie Buzachero's return to the FSL was not a happy one, as he gave up an 8th inning homer that proved to be the only run of the game. Kurt Isenberg started and went 7 shutout innings, allowing 3 hits and 2 walks with 6 strikeouts. The D-Jay offence could only muster 1 hit by Robinson Diaz. Adam Lind DHed yesterday with Brian Patrick in left field, and Emmanuel Sena played third base, perhaps for defensive reasons.

Southwest Michigan 4 Lansing 2

The Lugnuts could not score in support of hard-luck loser Chi-Hung Cheng until the 9th inning. It was too little, too late. Cheng went 4.2 innings and allowed 1 unearned run on 2 hits and 5 walks while punching 8 tickets. Adrian Martin was hit hard in 2.1 innings of relief, 8 hits and 3 earned runs. Mark Sopko closed out the game with 2 perfect innings and 1 strikeout. Curtis Thigpen had 2 of the Lugs' 4 hits and drove in a run in the ninth.

Thanks for the report and links Mike.

Anton French really is building himself a case for a cup of coffee. But he is the sparkplug that drives that team and I suspect management would be hesitant to call him up as well he is viewed as the proverbial AAAA player now.

He sure be a good guy to have on the bench though.

nice pitching performances today

Brandon League had 5 solid innings, despite not k'ing anyone, but only allowed one ER.

In the Fisher cats double header Reimers and Marcum combined for 14 innings of shut out ball. Marcum had a complete game 5 hitter and improved to 5-1.

Romero went 6 solid innings for Dunedin giving up 2 runs and k'ing 6 despite getting the loss.

Casey Janssen pitched 7 great innings picking up his fourth win this season. In 46 innings he's allowed 26 hits, and only 4bb's.

I just wanted to get this in to you guys. I will write what I saw at the game today a little later, but Casey Janssen was promoted to Dunedin following the game. He reports officially to the team on Wednesday and joins their starting rotation. Po Hsuan Keng will come off the DL and take his roster spot. The new starter in the Lansing rotation has not been named yet, but any rumors on who may be headed to Lansing or who was moved to make room for Janssen?

Thanks Lugnut Fan.

The Dunedin starters are Purcey, Jackson, Isenberg, MacDonald and Romero. If there is no injury, Purcey and Jackson stay due to their draft position. Isenberg has pitched very well recently, that leaves Romero and MacDonald. Romero has been inconsistent, lots of strikeouts but lots of hits also, although today was better. Romero has pitched in the bullpen before so he could go back there. After a hot start MacDonald has started to struggle so he could be demoted also. Its either Romero or MacDonald in my opinion.

Let me talk to you about Janssen's last Lansing start. His last outing here may have been his most impressive as far as what he had. Everything was nasty and he was consistently hitting 95 on the radar gun. Typically he topped out at 90, but today it was 95 all the way through the seventh. It was a great pitchers duel and the other guy pitched a hell of a game, but he was pitching against a man possessed today. SWM started the scoring in the top of the fourth. The lead off guy hit a single into right field that he stretched into a double. It turned out to be huge because he later scored on a single.

It stayed that way until the bottom of the fifth when Luke Hetherington started the inning with a double and later scored on a two run homer by Christian Snavely over the right field wall. It was Snavely's second homer on the season and his first since April 16th. The Luggies would add another run in the bottom of the seventh. Chip Cannon led off with a single and advanced to second on an error by the center fielder. He then scored on a Jason Armstrong single to right. That gave the Lugnuts a 3-1 lead. Danny hill then came in in the bottom of the ninth and picked up his ninth save of the season.

A note to Casey Janssen. It was a pleasure watching you pitch in Lansing and you are a good a person as you are a pitcher. I wish you all the best in Dunedin.

I agree with Gerry. I'm hoping that Romero keeps his spot in the starting rotation; he's by far the better prospect in my opinion, and in any event, he will, I believe, have six years minor league service at the end of this year.

I am pleased to hear that Keng is OK.
