Pitiless in Alomar: Walrus, Decepticons, Senators and Glyndwr win big.
Lubumbashi Posse washes the Sweaty Guys and catches Pistol.
Baseball North conquers New Jersey, sets sights on tasty Papayas.

ALOMAR DIVISION:

Neil Young once said an ambulance only go so fast, but he neglected to mention the speedy Walrus. Coach’s squad set an Alomar record with 15 steals en route to a 9-3-0 dissection of Baird Brain. The Walrus also had the 5th-best roto week in Alomar history. The Edmonton Decepticons snuck above .500 with a 10-2-0 victory over Garces. Mebion Glyndwr shrugged off a reasonably good performance by the Thunderbirds. My Senators continued to sprinkle Kryptonite on their opponents: the Red Mosquitoes had an all-time BBFL-worst .231 on-base percentage for the week and fell into fifth.

Undefeated by category this season: Austin Senators in OBP and WHIP, Chatsworth Halos in IP, Reykjavik Fish Candy in IP, and Slippery Pete in saves.

This week’s hot matchup: #3 Toronto Walrus vs. #4 Reykjavik Fish Candy.

The Archivists managed to squeak out a 7-5 win over a good Middleclass Elitists team; it looks like not! last! place! is once again a possibility, against all odds.

Bonds : What can you say about Tony Womack, who stole four bases in a game twice this week. 8 steals, six runs scored, and a .310 average more than make up for the pedestrian .379 slugging percentage.

Neifi : I finally benched Tike Redman's sorry butt, which means I need a new whippng boy. Step right up JT Snow, who was hurt for a week and then limped to an 0-3 performance on the final day to lose me the OBP category.

Pedro : Tom Glavine finally came through for me, with a brilliant 7 4 0 0 0 3 line versus the mighty Cardinals.

Lima : Freddy Garcia, who went 0-2 giving up 11 earned runs in 12.1 innings.

After being down 10-2 going into Sunday, the Wonders chopped the Mighty Midgets down to size as we finished the week 6-5-1 winners.

Bonds: Alex Rios, 8-20/5/6/2/.400/.500/.750

Perez: Ronnie Belliard, 2-17/1/1/0/.118/.167/.294

Martinez: Brandon Backe, W/15.0IP/0.60/0.80/1.60

Lima: Kris Benson, 6.0IP/9.00/1.67 (no W or BB/K)

Hoorah. That 11-0-1 line from this week helps to make up for the 0-10-2 line posted earlier in the year to put The Brute Squad firmly in place at just 4 games under .500! And now I can say I know the feeling of winning the stolen bases category with a total of just 2.

Bonds: Will the real Tino please stand up? Martinez more than doubled his entire season's RBI production in one week and posted a 1.217 SLG to boot. And still his amazing week was almost for naught thanks to...

Neifi: The entire OF (aka The Brutal Squad). The four horsemen finished the week posting Avg's of .188 - .167 - .167 and .133 with a combined 2 RBIs.

Pedro: A couple of good ones here but Im going to go with Bob Wickman. 3 innings, 3 saves, no earned runs.

Lima: Well no one was really horrible this week (hooray!). I guess Id have to go with Glover: 5.0IP, 7.20ERA but also 6.00 K/BB and a not-too-bad 1.40 WHIP.

A few weeks ago I cancelled awards and did nothing but bad mouth Rios (he should get sent back to AAA) and Tino Martinez (someone prepare an eulogy). My Larry Bowa style motivation technique is reaping rewards. This week I turn my wrath on Lowell and Hardy. I don't find their shtick very funny. Who's on first? Neither one actually. They've both been terrible.

Bonds: Tino! Tino! Tino!
MiniBonds: Rios with 2 homeruns!

Neifi: The aforementioned Lowell and Hardy. To think, I even traded Ichiro! in the offseason to land Lowell. Oh well, at least that trade also netted me...

Clemens: Clemens wins the renamed Pedro award. That the award wasn't initially named the Clemens award is surprising. 2 Wins, 0.6 ERA

Lima: John Halama. My pitching has been great all year so I can't complain too much. Halama pitched one inning for the Decepticons, enough to take home the Lima and a pink slip.

This week the Edmonton Decepticons travel to Austin to take on the league leading Commisioner-run Senators. Really, what kind of bushleague allows a commissioner to own a team. Anyhoo, the last Edmonton team to venture into the heart of Texas was the Oilers. Let's hope I'm not in for 5 consecutive years of heartbreak like the Oilers.

Really, what kind of bushleague allows a commissioner to own a team.

The kind that allowed you to have a team. :)

My sarcastic jaunt at MLB and Bud Selig didn't come through in my writing. My bad. Scott, I'm sure that you're more on the up and up than your MLB counterpart.
Lucas - Monday, May 16 2005 @ 11:37 PM EDT (#116806) #
No prob, I was only joking (note the smiley). But I didn't catch your jab because: a) I've had a very long day, and b) maybe I'm just slow.

This week’s hot matchup: #3 Toronto Walrus vs. #4 Reykjavik Fish Candy.

That match-up is akin to Cardinals vs. Brewers. One of those teams is playing way above its head. And it's not the one owned by Coach. :)

My Eastern Shore Birds "sluggers" continue to disappoint. Ghost Man on Third took all the hitting categories but one in our Alomar Division matchup, and it wasn't because the Ghosts hit well.

Neifi: IRod did worse than Aramis Ramirez who did worse than Ty Wigginton who did worse than Angel Berroa who did worse than Kevin Mench who sucked.

Bonds: Free agent pickup Bobby Kielty showed my other bums how it's done.

Lima: Jim Mecir blew up and took my lead in the ERA race with him (and was thrown off the island).

Pedro: Ty Walker (the Birds lead the league in Tys ... woohoo) picked up my first 2 saves of the season!

A tough week for the Nine as both Bagwell and Rolen went down with shoulder injuries.

Bonds: Abreu 8/12/1 .583/.677/1.458 (that’s got to be close to a record week, if that kind of thing is tracked)
Neifi: A Gonzales (FL) 0/2/0 .176/.263/.235

Pedro: Livan! 13.1/2/0 3.38/1.43/2.00
Lima: Santos 4/0/0 4.50/2.75/0.50

Hamboy - Tuesday, May 17 2005 @ 10:22 AM EDT (#116819) #
Back to back bashing by the bashers (Mad & Bodell's) brought Rollies low in Carter division. Who would've thought with Beltran in my roster, I would be last in steals category... not I. On to awards (if you could call it that...)

Bonds: The honour goes to none other than Daryl Ward, who has smashed 3 4 0 .333 .333 .625 in absence of Craig Wilson.

Neifi: I would like to give it to Beltran for all of sudden turning into singles hitter, but the honour goes to Mark Ellis for smashing the ball at the rate of 0 0 0 .167 .286 .167

Pedro: This honour would have to go to #2 in Who's Hot list for pitchers, Shawn Estes with line of 12.0 2 0 3.75 1.25 13.00 has put himself over Brandon Backe who had 15.0 1 0 0.60 0.80 1.60.

Lima: I would like to give this award to its namesake (who was my spot starter and floundered) but the honour goes to: Ryan Madson with 2.0 0 0 27.00 4.50 2.00

BTW, I'm sure I haven't paid... where can I pay?
Craig B - Tuesday, May 17 2005 @ 11:12 AM EDT (#116825) #
While we're on the subject, I'd like to poll the owners as to whether it's too late to institute promotion/relegation between Barfield and Carter for this year. I don't think it's too late; realistically, we'd want unanimous or near-unanimous approval from the Barfield owners, but I think it's doable. It would give the Carter owners an additional carrot, and make the end of the year interesting for teams who are out of the race for the consolation spots in Barfield.

Each division is as competitive as the other; no one loses anything, or gains much, by moving up or down. Just prestige, I guess.
A - Tuesday, May 17 2005 @ 11:30 AM EDT (#116831) #
The 1-Tool Wonders would support Craig's relegation ammendment to the Barfield Division rules.
Lucas - Tuesday, May 17 2005 @ 12:25 PM EDT (#116840) #

That promotion system already exists:

2005-01: Create a third division to be named "Carter." The Carter Division will have the same rules and promotion system as other divisions in the BBFL...

YES (24), no (4)

The Walrus also had the 5th-best roto week in Alomar history.

Whining about my anemic offence during the first five weeks seems pretty silly after that 52-50-15 in the counting stats. My club has enjoyed a few other decent results in the last couple of years, but a team OPS of .966 is always unexpected. Coco Crisp was part of a complete breakfast with his 8 4 3 .500 .571 1.056 line. As their Barfield owners have pointed out, the great Bobby Abreu was even better and the not-so-great Tony Womack ran wild on the basepaths.

If anyone in Alomar wants to acquire an OF bat for an arm, please send me an offer. Crisp and Matt Lawton are useful in six categories, Craig Monroe (.500 .625 .833 last week) is also available and in the "bargain bin" are the likes of Nook Logan, Ryan Church and Marlon Byrd. I will also consider trading a 2B (Jorge Cantu, Adam Kennedy or Whoa!-mack) for the right pitcher.

That match-up is akin to Cardinals vs. Brewers.

Keeping alive the spirit of "reverse trash talking" in this league, I have plenty of respect for the Fish Candy and their modest GM. In the pitching department, it’s Moffatt’s quality against my quantity. On the hitting side, we both have lots of speed, so I’m hoping the recent, long overdue Walrus power surge continues. A split would suit me fine.

Do you realize that if you toss out their only poor week as an aberration, the Senators are a ridiculous 50-5? Scott's utter dominance in the Roto standings supports my belief that the rest of us are playing for silver. However, in H2H, a team can get hot for a few days in the playoffs and defeat a superior opponent. Kinda like real baseball.
Craig B - Tuesday, May 17 2005 @ 02:16 PM EDT (#116859) #
OK, forget what I said. I thought we hadn't done that yet!

Wow, the midgets fell flat on their face this week, almost an epic a choke job as the Yankees, except in fantasy ball, and it wasnt really that heartbreaking, only frusterating. Troy Glaus continues to absolutly mash the ball but pokey little Jason Ellison continues to top even him in winning the hitter of the week award as he contributes very solidly in every category last week. Raffy Furcal is currently banished to the dog house and has been removed from the "starting lineup" (he's now MI instead of SS). I can understand slow starts, but this is perhaps the most frusterating of them all. The D-Train and Prior the Wonderboy are offically pitchers of the week until they totally fall on their butt from here on out. On the same note, Davy Bush is the bum of the week until he proves himself otherwise. This week shouldnt be too bad with a few folks visiting Coors and Glaus in Houston and then Detriot plus the added bonus of two starts from Prior and Willis.
