Last night the Jays wore their road caps with their home jerseys and scored 12 runs. What's in store for us tonight?

A 9-4 win, that's what!

It was nice to see Hill take one deep tonight, and to see a well pitched game from Chacin.
It seems guys rumoured to be on the block are taking it up a notch, especially Cat. Him and Speier are two guys who could definately net some value.

Nice, couldn't catch the game but an important win. Looks likes the Jays aren't done yet!

Hopefully they can get the sweep in the game i'm goin to tomorrow!

Glad to hear JP talk about Hudson as being a core part of the team. Especially after the O-Dog show we had in tonight's game.

What was up with the little chat between him and Franklin tonight? I assume they thought he was stealing signs, but that was probably one of the weirdest things i've seen at a game all season.

And who was in 533 tonight? I was in the front row with my parents. You were slacking on the cowbell tonight ;)

Even though Gus pitched well tonight, with no ODog tonight, he might not have made it out of the 1st. What a gem of a game from ODog.

The Jays, by the way, are the 5th highest scoring team in all of major league baseball.

Yes, the offense has been surprisingly good but I'm sure many are shocked that it is 5th overall. Seems the immediate need is starting pitching. Wouldn't surprise me to see JP go after 2 starters in the off season. If he accomplishes that, he will feel safer in trading away some younger pitching prospects in order to upgrade the offense a couple of notches.

If anyone has a clear idea what the Blue Jays are doing with Brandon League, I'd love to hear it.

Dr Prison Fence takes the case.

Gaudin sure had a rough debut in the pen. He's still just 22 but is out of options thanks to the D-Rays. I wonder if the Jays will ride him out in the pen this season or give him more of a chance in AAA to work on a 3rd/4th pitch. I still think he has lots of potential.

I'm dissappointed they didn't bring Gaudin back out for the 9th.

He really settled down after Arnie came out, and threw nothing but nasty stuff around the knees which they couldn't touch.

Those first few at bats he was just leaving waist high meatballs up there for them to swat.

Gaudin can't be out of options. He's already been called up and sent down this year without having to clear waivers.

I was at the game and thinking exactly the same thing.

Leave the kid in and let him get some confidence back. The bullpen could have used a rest, and Gaudin has been starting at Syracuse so it's not like he's incapable of going more than one inning.

Options are one of the most misunderstood things in MLB.

Read this:

http://espn.go.com/mlb/s/transanctionsprimer.html

Gaudin was prematurely added to the Rays 40-man roster in 2003 when they promoted him to the majors. I say prematurely because he had 80 IP at High-A and 20 IP at Double-A when they promoted him.

Players are on optional assignment ("have options") for three years while on the 40-man roster. Once they have served their three years, they are no longer on optional assignment ("out of options").

If the Rays were patient and waited until the end of the 2003 season to add Gaudin to their 40-man roster, he would have had options until 2006.
Jacko - Thursday, July 21 2005 @ 12:07 AM EDT (#123374) #
I should have concluded by saying that Gaudin has options in 2005, but will be out of options in 2006.

Yar, that would've been me. I liked the crowd and noise level, but there was just this weird atmosphere, I wasn't feeling the game. That, and the acoustics were bad.

First time in my life I've left a game early.

But when the Cheer Club abandons you and your only recourse is boring yourself to death in the 18th row of the skydeck, you don't have too many options.
VBF - Thursday, July 21 2005 @ 01:19 AM EDT (#123378) #
What, you left early?!!? Who abandoned you?

Alex left a note (albeit one written on duct tape taped to the floor of the rogers centre...) telling you we were sitting in 532, Tyler. The place seemed to be crowded, but only 28k were there. We were scattered all over the place because the 500 level was packed. Thomas myself and Alex were in the shady 518 (532) We need some way to find other bauxites in games like these. Perhaps a brushfire.

This is why we should have tried harder to get the horn of war...

I'm dissappointed they didn't bring Gaudin back out for the 9th.

I'm okay with lifting Gaudin after the 8th. He got a relief appearance in and ended on a strong note, hopefully something that carries into his next appearance.

I think the most important thing last night was to get the win. Bringing Speier in makes a 1-2-3 ninth more likely, and gives the Jays the win without letting the Mariners think that they're back in the game.

I know it goes against all tradition, but the bizarro side of 518 (532) is way better. There's a view of the CN Tower, Toronto Skyline, the shade, and we'd be on the 'home side'.
