The farm affiliates pulled out all the dramatic cliches en route to a 5-1 evening. Big leads almost blown in the nervous ninth. Walk-off homers. Walk-off baserunner kills. Let's hope the big boys were watching.

Syracuse 3 Scranton Wilkes-Barre 6

Some errors are more costly than others. How's this one? On a throwing error by third baseman Bryant Nelson with the bases loaded in a 1-1 game, all three runners scored. Ouch. Zach Jackson struggled, allowing 12 baserunners in 6.1 innings. Jamie Vermilyea continued his adjustment to triple A with 1.2 perfect innings, including a strikeout. Gabe Gross went 3-4 with a double and an HBP. He's now hitting .301; his OBP was at .377 before the game, so he's cleared .380. Guillermo Quiroz went 0-3.

Binghamton 7 New Hampshire 8

The Fisher Cats rallied with 2 runs in the 7th and 8th innings, and then held on in the nervous ninth for the victory. Miguel Negron hit 2 solo homers and also singled in a run, and Chip Cannon hit a 2 run blast. David Purcey started and pitched well. He went 5.1 innings and gave up 2 runs on his own on 7 hits and 2 walks with 7 strikeouts, but left 2 runners on. Tracy Thorpe came on and immediately was tagged for a 3 run pop. Steve Andrade continued his fine pitching with 2.1 hitless innings (1 walk, 3 strikeout) and was full value for the win. Jesse Carlson ran into his first trouble of the season in the ninth, but Ron Acuna threw out the tying run at the plate for the final out of the game. Cannon went 2-4; Ryan Roberts went 1-5, while Curtis Thigpen went 0-3. Negron also threw out a runner at the plate.

Tampa 3 Dunedin 5

There was more excitement in Dunedin. It's the bottom of the ninth, and the D-Jays trail 3-2. Joey Reiman grounds out. Vito Chiaravalloti lines a single to center. Mike Snyder pinch-hits and lines a single to right. Rally caps on. Pinch-hitter David Smith decides to play hero, and drives a ball over the centerfield fence for a walk-off 3 run homer. Kyle Yates started for the Jays and went 4.1 innings, allowing 1 unearned run on 3 hits and 3 walks with 3 strikeouts. Aaron Harang was touched for the other 2 Tampa runs before Brad Mumma and Milton Tavarez set the stage for the rally by pitching 3 scoreless and clean innings. Adam Lind singled twice in 4 trips and drove in the first 2 Dunedin runs.

Beloit 1 Lansing 2

The Lugnuts rallied for 2 runs in the 7th inning, with the winning run scoring on a Yuber Rodriguez sacrifice fly. The Lugnuts had only 5 baserunners in the game, but put them to good use! Russ Savickas started and pitched well, going 6 innings and allowing 1 earned run on 6 hits, 1 walk and 6 punchouts. Aaron Tressler and Jordan Timm finished up the game with distinction and receipted for the win and save respectively.

Auburn 9 Batavia 2

The Doubledays led 9-0 after 4 and 1/2 and coasted to the easy win. They rapped out 15 hits, with the 3P outfield of Patterson, Pettway and Patton each having a single and a double. Ryan Patterson, who is now hitting .341, also walked twice. Brian Bormaster doubled and tripled, while Jermy Acey drove in 3 with 2 singles, and also walked. Kristian Bell started and threw 6 shutout innings, allowing 4 hit and 3 walks, while striking out 6. Edward Rodriguez got the long save, allowing 2 earned runs on 3 hits and no walks with 4Ks. Pats on the back to all in this one.

Bluefield 7 Pulaski 8

The P-Jays led 8-2 after 5 innings and held on in the late innings. Dennis Bigley started and went 3.0 innings, allowing 1 earned run on 4 hits and 3 walks with 4 strikeouts. Cory Hahn came on and continued his great pitching with 3 innings, 1 unearned run on 1 hit and no walks with 5 strikeouts. Hahn's ERA on the season is now 1.48. In 24.1 innings, he's allowed 18 hits, 1 homer and 4 walks, while striking out 31. On O, Christopher Looze hit a 2 run homer and a double in 4 trips. Graig Badger doubled and singled in 4 trips. He scored and drove in 2. Jonathan Jaspe continued his hot hitting with a double and a single. He plated 3. On the downbeat side, Leance Soto made 2 errors and went 1-3 with 2 strikeouts.

3rd star-Cory Hahn, superb relief for Pulaski
2nd star-David Smith, a walk off homer for Dunedin to bring them back
1st star-Miguel Negron, 2 homers, and a run-scoring single and a baserunner killed at the plate, is doing it

For those that may be interested in such a thing, the Lasning game may be interesting today. Eric Nielsen plowed the Beloit catcher over with the deciding run yesterday. The problem was that he pretty much had to go out of his way to do and the it caused the benches to clear. There were no punches thrown, but this such may not be over. Nielsen came up in the bottom of the eighth again and the catcher and him had words again, but it was a close game. If Nielsen plays today, he will more than likely be hit in his first plate appearance and then we will see if he runs down to first and that is the end of it or if it escalates to something further. Oh yeah, Chi-Hung Cheng is pitching as well....
