Have you noticed that just about anything can be EXTREME these days? As a younger person, I am certainly motivated to purchase a specific brand of soap because it is extreme. In that spirit, here's our first ever EXTREME CAPTION CONTEST:

The winner as chosen by me will win a prize that's extremely... something.

My entry: "Wha--"

Just remember the cardinal rules for making it super-duper extreme:

• it's only cool if you leave off the 'e' and capitalize the X, like Xtreme!!! (the exclamation points make it sound really important as well)
• it's also doubly cool if you throw a 'z' somewhere near the end instead of an 's'. The old WWF was notorious for this; this tag-team called the Hardy Boyz were also known as 'Team Xtreme'. Ugh.

Schoeneweis' picture with the ball is exactly the same as Wile E Coyote's look when he realizes thet the giant boulder with the elastic rope is coming back to hit him.

You can't make a move until the ball gets within inches and then you must throw open your jaw.

The secret of catching the ball with your mouth.

Is this a doctored photo NFH? The ball looks disproportionately large compared to his head.

that ball Is bigger than a softball
Mick Doherty - Friday, September 16 2005 @ 03:45 PM EDT (#128113) #
I would guess the ball is simply a few feet closer to the camera, but the flat nature of the photograph doesn't make that easily apparent.

Nope, he's tossing the ball and catching it one-handed as he waits for Gibbons to get to the mound to change pitchers. Perspective is a little compressed because it's a long lens.

No one has blown away the field yet. Entries will continue to be accepted until I get up and check out the internet Monday morning.

Good morning NFH.

"Nice pitch, Scott. Now return to me"

"This is going to make a great caption contest"

"Hmm... a comebacker. What would Derek Jeter do?"

"When I lure Jarrod Washburn here as I am his best friend, he's going to have a hell of a time with these magical Canadian baseballs."

"So... if I miss catching this comebacker, i'll have a .547 OPS against lefties and finally make that guy change his sign...no, that would be a .549 OPS...no..no....carry the one......471?...is that the sound of a cowbell..I'm confused..oh, it's a right handed batter...then I don't know what my OPS against righties is as a result of nobody making a sign about it...Richard Griffin's really let his beard grow wild...just let the bloody O-Dog get it...catsup or ketchup...whoa, I'm in way over my head."

Gregg: Yeah.... but can you do it in battle? You throw that huge stone at me Scott, and I promise not to move. Then I'll throw this wee baseball at you...

"I was standing on the mound, wondering why a baseball appears larger as it gets closer...and then it hit me"
