Jason Arnold to start the year in New Hampshire.

http://www.syracuse.com/weblogs/baseball/

from Matt Michael:
"After starter Josh Banks, who threw five scoreless innings, the SkyChiefs followed with Francisco Rosario for two, Shaun Marcum for one, Brandon League for one and Ryan Houston for one. That's an impressive lineup of young pitchers, and the relievers recorded nine of their 12 outs on strikeouts (Banks fanned five, giving Syracuse 14 in the game).

Happy with their starting pitching, the Blue Jays have moved former starters Rosario, Marcum and League to the bullpen. They could be joined by Toronto's No. 1 prospect, Dustin McGowan, who's scheduled to pitch in relief Tuesday. It's possible the Blue Jays will use McGowan in relief at Syracuse, too, giving the SkyChiefs a prospect-filled bullpen."

And to be more precise, box scores for the spring training games.

"...It's possible the Blue Jays will use McGowan in relief at Syracuse, too, giving the SkyChiefs a prospect-filled bullpen."

While this is TRUE lets HOPE these guys are more than just AAA ALL-STARS!

A tenative assignment list was posted at the minor league spring training camp yesterday... With the official list being set likely today. Some of these pitching assignments (I didn't receive them all) are a surprise:

Syracuse: Francisco Rosario, Dustin McGowan, Shaun Marcum, David Purcey, Casey Janssen

New Hampshire: Kyle Yates, Danny Hill, Mike MacDonald, Davis Romero, Jamie Vermilyea, Ryan Houston, Jason Arnold

Dunedin: Justin James, Brad Mumma, Brian Wolfe

Do to the number of pitchers in triple-A and double-A the Jays have had to place a number of triple-A deserving pitchers back to double-A, which has created a backwash. Vermilyea, Houston and Arnold could probably all be in triple-A and I expected Purcey and Janssen to start out in double-A but I guess they impressed this spring.

Hey Brandon:

The Syracuse Skychiefs have been posting short news releases about their games on their web-site and the New Hampshire Fisher Cats are the only Blue Jays affiliate to post boxscores but only for their team.

The links are right on the front pages of each team's web-site.

That's all I've been able to stumble on - hope it helps.

Hey Gerry,

Do you have any idea where Clint Johnston ended up?
Gerry - Thursday, March 30 2006 @ 12:40 PM EST (#143755) #
No I don't, those minor league signings don't get a lot of press. Once games start next week you can do a search on him at minor league baseball or baseball america.

Clint was a nice guy with an interesting story, we wish him well.

Charlie Anderson was also released by the Jays this week.

I have all the official 2006 minor league rosters posted over at BlueJayWay.ca (in the beyond the dome section) if anyone is interested. I won't post them here because I don't want to step on anyone's toes... I know Batter's Box is planning some upcoming previews for the minor league clubs.

There are definitely some surprise assignments for guys like Orlando Trias, Jesse Litsch, Connor Falkenbach, Dustin Majewski, etc. Also, reliever T.J. Gornati is on the Dunedin roster after being in rookie ball with San Francisco last season.

The only players not announced were the catchers for Syracuse... I imagine they are waiting to see if Quiroz passes waivers.

The above link shows you the players on all the minor league teams.

Surprises:

Vince Perkins is not on any roster, he could be on the DL

Vito Chiaravalotti gets another shot at AA, but he and Chip Cannon will have to share 1B and DH duties.

Wayne Lydon's strong spring earned him a trip to AAA, I believe he was headed to AA before the spring

As I expected Ryan Patterson made it to high A, and Patton and Pettway go to Lansing

Purcey and Janssen also impressed this spring and that, together with Marcum's move to the pen, gave them a shot. Purcey had a great outing yesterday and if he has tamed his control he could be interesting.

Taubenheim could be a stretch at AAA. Like Purcey he has limited experience above A ball, but unlike Purcey his stuff is not supposed to be as good.

A couple of the new guys the Jays brought in are nowehere to be found. Matt Blank pitched a lot in spring training and Brian Tollberg are not on any rosters.

The Korean connection returns to Lansing which is a surprise, it's good news for Robert Ray, Jesse Litsch and Eric Fowler.

Now that spring training is ending I wonder if Jim854 can give us his hits and misses of spring training. Jim?
Pistol - Friday, March 31 2006 @ 08:13 PM EST (#143889) #
Purcey and Janssen both spent limited time in AA last year (43 innings each if you like coincidences) so to start this year in AAA is the biggest surprise for me.
Marc Hulet - Saturday, April 01 2006 @ 01:29 PM EST (#143941) #
The report on Vince Perkins is that he is on the DL, having experienced "soreness." But I'm not sure the area of the soreness but it is not considered overly serious. He should be back at double-A when he is feeling better.

Brian Reed, released earlier this week, has signed on with the Phillies and will report to high-A ball with the opportunity to move quickly throught the pitching-depleted system.

On a sad note, double-A shortstop Raul Tablado will likely miss the season while dealing with a serious illness.
Brian B. - Saturday, April 01 2006 @ 05:29 PM EST (#143969) #
Hey Gerry:

Wouldn't Aaron Matthews be the centre fielder and Eric Neilson be the corner fielder on the Dunedin team?
Marc Hulet - Saturday, April 01 2006 @ 05:35 PM EST (#143970) #
Ryan Patterson would probably play center for Dunedin, with Majewski also spending time there. Mathews will be the fourth outfielder, playing all three.
Gerry - Saturday, April 01 2006 @ 10:48 PM EST (#143980) #
John Schneider has been called up to Syracuse to be the second catcher.

Dustin McGowan will start the season in the bullpen, Francisco Rosario will move into the rotation.
