Here's one. The Phillies are four games out.

Which seemed unthinkable after their crummy start. But the Mets have slid gracefully back to the pack, and the Phils have turned their season around more or less. The NL East has a chance to become what the NL West already is - a three team struggle where the standings can change every day.

Nothing like that going on in the AL this year. Yet.

Two intriguing pitching matchups. At Yankee Stadium, the infield grass promises to get a severe workout as long as Webb and Wang are firing those sinkers.

And at Tampa Bay, Greg Maddux goes up against Scott Kazmir. They're both from Texas, and they're both six feet tall. Otherwise - not a lot in common.

There's a piece in today's NYT about the Phillies approaching a "milestone", for the most losses by any professional sports franchise.  Apparently, in the very near future, the Phillies will record their 10,000th loss.   That's wicked bad.

Old news around here! Faithful readers of the Box got a heads up on this at the end of last season. The Phillies have also had more 90 loss seasons (37) than any franchise in all of human history, and they are the only team to lose 90 or more games ten years in a row (1936-45), a mark the Devil Rays will try, or not try, to match this season.

Tell me that Gibbons forgot to spell Alex Rios with Royce Clayton.

If only Vernon Wells' hitting was as easily diagnosible as John Gibbons insanity.

Still awaiting a logical response.
