Auburn moves onto the NY-Penn League Championship after defeating Oneonta 4-3.

Oneonta 4 @ Auburn 3

Auburn got off to a good start in this one scoring one in the bottom of the first.  Benjamin Zeskind led off with a single to right field.  Adam Calderone followed with another single.  After a fly out Manny Rodriguez double to left.  Zeskind scored, but Calderone was thrown out at the plate.

Oneonta scored one in the third on a walk, balk, stolen base and sac fly.

Auburn took the lead back in the bottom of the third.  Zeskind reached base on a walk and advanced to 2nd on a Calderone sac bunt.  A Mastroianni infield single moved him to third and Manny Rodriguez hit a sac fly to score Zeskind.  After all that small ball Brad Emaus came up and hit a 2 run home run to go up 4-1.

Luis Perez got the start for the Doubledays and gave up just the one run in 6.1 innings.  Joe Wice finished off the 7th inning for Perez.

Ryan Bird pitched an easy 8th inning - 2 Ks and a come backer.  However, Bird came out for the 9th inning and gave up two singles to lead off the inning.  He came back to strike out the next two before giving up a two run double.  This brought out Cody Crowell who struck out the final batter for the win.

Just curious ...

Has anyone ever run numbers showing how minor league championships/success correlate (or don't) to future major league championships for an organization?

For instance, did the NYY minor league teams of the early '90s win a bunch? Or the CIN farm of the late '60s and early '70s? Anything like that?

That's a good question Mick.  I can tell you that the Tigers farm club in the MWL has won two of the last three championships and is up 2-0 in the finals right now, so it looks like they will win another.  They seem to be having some pretty good success throughout their farm system and it is starting to correlate to some success at the MLB level right now as well.

The problem with comparing minor league success(wins, championships etc.) to talent produced is that the best prospects can move through the system either too fast or advance mid season so it would be pretty difficult to correlate talent production to team success on a one or 2 year basis,  IMO. Also age /level plays a pretty big factor so I'd guess it would not be a simple calculation.
